Thanks so much for everyone’s help on my other thread - middle name for Scarlett
After reading all of the suggestions and speaking with my husband we have decided neither Rose or Grace feels right. So, please bare with me, this might be a long one
Our daughter Zara has an honour name from my side of the family (Kate, from my grandmother Katherine) so it’s only fair that my husband gets the honour name for our 2nd
With that in mind, his late uncle’s name was Alec (Alexander), so we are considering a few different female variations of this name
Scarlett Alexa
Scarlett Lexi
Scarlett Alexia
Scarlett Alexis
Scarlett Alexandra (a bit too long?)
Some other honour names we have are:-
Esther, Margaret (we would likely use variations/nicknames - suggestions welcome)
Lacey
James (too masculine?)
Our surname is Green@n - not the easiest to work with! Excited to hear your thoughts!
[name_f]Alexia[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] feel a bit too long next to [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] I would personally scratch because of the Amazon device, it’s unfortunately all I think of now (bad choice on Amazons part using a commonly enough used girl’s name for this). Not so much a problem as a middle rather than a first though, it might not be a big deal to you. I actually like [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] but you don’t so I think you should scratch for that reason. [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] isn’t my cup of tea but there’s nothing wrong with it and it sounds good in the combo. I can’t really think of any other options except maybe [name_f]Xandra[/name_f], but this may not emphasise the relevant part of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] if he was known as [name_m]Alec[/name_m] and therefore be a bit tenuous as an honour.
As to your other options, [name_f]Lacey[/name_f] and [name_u]James[/name_u] aren’t my thing though I do like [name_f]Jamesina[/name_f] but I understand this really isn’t to most peoples taste.
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] is nice in its own right, I would probably use [name_f]Este[/name_f] as the honour, or there is also [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] / [name_f]Estella[/name_f].
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is another good one as there are a million nicknames, although for me any of the [name_u]Mar[/name_u]- ones would be scratched because of the repeated sound from [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] first instinct was [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] would be ideal, but then I don’t think a noun after [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] works. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] would be out for the same reason. I like [name_f]Meg[/name_f] / [name_f]Meggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Peggy[/name_f]. [name_f]Greta[/name_f] or [name_f]Gretel[/name_f] would be another possibility, but then you have the same problem as [name_f]Grace[/name_f] with the Gr- of the surname.
Tough one!
I think you might need something shorter, [name_f]Zara[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] seem to have quite a drastic length difference.
I think [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexia[/name_f] Green@n works best. I like [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] but the Amazon device has ruined that name .
If wanting to honour [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] I think [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] Green@n works well. [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] Green@n or even [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] Green@n. (Margaret means pearl)
For [name_u]James[/name_u], you could do [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Jade/Jane Green@n but I do feel [name_u]James[/name_u] is too masculine.
Then [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Esther[/name_f] also works.
Ooh I love the [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] suggestion. I had actually considered this but didn’t realise it had this meaning
This would also be a double honour (!) as my grandmother (and myself) were born in [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is the birthstone for [name_u]June[/name_u]
Forgot one of my fave [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nicknames - [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. There’s also [name_f]Etta[/name_f] (wouldn’t work after the -ett of Scarlett) [name_f]Mae[/name_f], and [name_f]Margo[/name_f] / [name_f]Margot[/name_f] (though that repeats the vowel sound from Scarlett). [name_f]Margeaux[/name_f] if you wanted to be fancy.
Hey again, glad to see you’re opened to new options ;).
Of your Alexandra list, I would keep Lexi & maybe Alexis on there. Alexandra is too long (including for flow to Green@n). I don’t think Alexa flows super well in addition to the Amazon thing. Alexia is out for me as it’s also a medical term for a type of cognitive disorder - but if you don’t mind about that, it definitely works in terms of flow.
I like Esther or even just Esti, or maybe Aster (which also means star). Hmmm, maybe just Esther.
I think Daisy, Pearl, Maggie, Peggy & Rita could also work for Margaret - the words names like Daisy and Pearl aren’t quite as obviously noun-y as Rose (red rose green) but they’re a little iffy. I like Scarlett Maggie or Scarlett Peggie - plus they flow so nicely to Gr_.
I like Lacey as an option - it reminds me of my suggested “Lucy” - and creates the same song-song, light and melodic feel to the name. I would keep on the list for sure.
James is quite trendy for a girl middle (or was 10-15 years ago) and matches the one syllable Kate. I just think it slows down the name quite a lot? Maybe that’s not a bad thing, not sure. Lacey is better before your last name imo.
Lacey (or probably better, Lucy as an honour to Lacey), Peggie & Esther would be my faves! James in fourth.
Edit: or just go full Alexandra - said it a few times and it got easier to say - the LETT and ALE and DRA and GR for me first got - and it is super pretty!
With the first name [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and your last name being so heavy on the adjective side, I would stay away from anything wordy. Therefore I probably wouldn’t use [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Lacey[/name_f], etc
Out of your [name_m]Alec[/name_m] honor options, I like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] but agree it feels a little long compared to her sister. The flow is off for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] for me - it’s got the “let” and “lex” syllables right next to each other which makes it sound a bit redundant in the middle. [name_f]Alexia[/name_f] also feels a little bit drawn out in terms of syllable length, so my favorites for you would be [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] - the flow is nice with your last name. I would not worry about the Amazon association unless [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] was in the first name position - middle names aren’t used in everyday life, plus it’s an honor name.
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] is cute! You could also do something like [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Estella[/name_f] / [name_f]Estela[/name_f]. [name_u]James[/name_u] is definitely a masculine name, but [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] could work.
scarlett alexandra sounds great! or scarlett alexandria
for the other honor names some suggestions
for margaret:
scarlett margot
scarlett macy
scarlett greta
scarlett matilda
scarlett mary
scarlett marianne
and scarlett esther is very cute!
scarlett james also sounds very nice as james is unisex! but you could also do scarlett jade, scarlett jamie, scarlett janet etc.
I love [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is such a gorgeous name I love her she’s elegant, regal, strong and sounds stunning with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. Yes [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is a long name but I’m a fan of lengthy frilly princess options and for me this combination epitomises princess feels. [name_u]Truly[/name_u] gorgeous!
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexia[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] are nice! I think [name_f]Alexia[/name_f] is my fave
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is so gorgeous, I would honestly use it myself! But I gotta agree that compared to her sister’s name, it perhaps really sounds a bit grand. I don’t think names have to match though.
Many good ideas already, perhaps you’d also like
[name_f]Andra[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] / [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Andra[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Grethel/ [name_f]Greta[/name_f] Scarlett/ [name_f]Grete[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Meg[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Marta[/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] top faves, that have been suggested are definitely
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Esther[/name_f] (I’m currently obsessing over [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] and Ethelie, so it fits the vibe )
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Mae/ [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexa[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_u]Lex[/name_u]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u] (I don’t think it is too masculine when it is next to the name Scarlett)
I love [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexa[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexia[/name_f], and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] (I don’t think it’s too long at all!)
I would not go for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] since “Scarlett Margaret” sounds weird with the end sounds being similar.
I would also not go for [name_f]Lacey[/name_f], since “Scarlett Lace” is a little too on the nose.
Try:
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Essie[/name_f] (for Esther)
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f] (another biblical name for Esther)
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] (elegant but softens the ending sound)
I also like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alessia[/name_f], which has already been mentioned.
Hopefully these help!
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] are both beautiful. I prefer [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] slightly more, even though it is longer.
