Recently I’ve been really loving [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but because it’s so popular I want to find a cool nickname for it (it can be a little bit of a stretch). I like [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] but I don’t love it. What are some different nicknames for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] beyond the basic ones?
These might be a stretch, but here goes:
[name_f]Bee[/name_f]
Za or [name_f]Zaza[/name_f] (I know one and it works but her full name is actually [name_f]Ignacia[/name_f])
[name_f]Lili[/name_f]/[name_f]Lili[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]
My favorite “less intuative” [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nickname is [name_f]Buffy[/name_f].
[name_f]Zibby[/name_f] is cute.
I know an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Libby[/name_f], and another who goes by [name_f]Elle[/name_f].
Other fun ideas:
Buzzy
[name_m]Zeb[/name_m]
[name_f]Zizi[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
These are traditional, but some that you don’t hear as often are [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Bess[/name_f], and [name_f]Liza[/name_f]. I have a cousin [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] whose siblings call her Lid. Googling I also found Zabby …
Ebby/[name_m]Ebbie[/name_m], [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_f]Elize[/name_f], [name_f]Zaza[/name_f], [name_f]Liza[/name_f] (pronounced [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-za), [name_f]Bette[/name_f], Bethsy
[name_f]Ebba[/name_f] is my favourite, personally.
I tried Lisby on my daughter. It was the name of someone I knew. But she got called “Lesby” after awhile, so we removed that name.
I like the idea of [name_u]Izzy[/name_u].
We call our [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] by the nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f], which is not as common as [name_f]Liz[/name_f], [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], and [name_f]Liza[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] a lot. Others to consider are [name_f]Zibby[/name_f], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] (which you mentioned), and the vintage [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], and [name_f]Bess[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Betty[/name_f] and [name_f]Effie[/name_f]. There’s also [name_f]Bebe[/name_f] (like baybay).
[name_f]Sable[/name_f] is a good one or Bibbi, [name_f]Effy[/name_f], or [name_f]Bizzy[/name_f]
I’m still of the opinion that [name_f]Tess[/name_f] could work, as a play on [name_f]Bess[/name_f]/[name_f]Beth[/name_f]/[name_f]Bette[/name_f].
I have a fondness for [name_f]Bess[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], though they’re not super unexpected.
I think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a name that can handle having a nickname that’s a bit of a stretch. Some thoughts (a mix of traditional-but-not-common-in-English and inventions):
Babet/ [name_f]Babette[/name_f]
Zabet / Zabette
[name_f]Zabel[/name_f] / [name_f]Zabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f] / [name_f]Bella[/name_f]
[name_u]Bliss[/name_u]
[name_f]Busy[/name_f]
[name_f]Bitsy[/name_f]
Blitz / Blitzi
[name_f]Lilian[/name_f]
Lilette / Liliette
[name_f]Blithe[/name_f]
Izette / [name_f]Izetta[/name_f] / Zetty / [name_f]Zetta[/name_f]
Itzy/ Itzi
[name_u]Billie[/name_u]
Elbie / [name_m]Elby[/name_m] / [name_f]Elba[/name_f]
I was waiting for someone to suggest [name_f]Bitsy[/name_f] and finally the previous poster did. I once knew an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] with that nickname and thought it was such a grate nickname. Also love the nickname [name_f]Zibby[/name_f].
If [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is spelled with an “s” there is [name_f]Lissie[/name_f], [name_f]Liese[/name_f] ([name_f]Lise[/name_f],) Liesie (Lisi,) [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Liesel[/name_f]
I know a [name_f]Lib[/name_f] and a Zib. Oh and a Bizzie/ [name_f]Busy[/name_f]
Perhaps [name_f]Mitzi[/name_f] might work as well.
Edited: I know a Biccy / [name_m]Bix[/name_m] as well which sometimes becomes Biscuit!
A bit of a stretch, but I always liked the idea of [name_f]Zella[/name_f] or [name_f]Zelie[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. Of course, [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] went by [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] (apparently because she couldn’t say [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] when she was little :). From that, I suppose [name_f]Lily[/name_f] might even work. Then you could get to other L nicknames too, like [name_f]Lila[/name_f] (‘lie-lah’) or [name_f]Lili[/name_f] (‘lee-lee’). [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Elle[/name_f] is cute too! I feel like I’m really reaching at this point…
[name_f]Bitsy[/name_f]
[name_f]Bess[/name_f]
[name_f]Libby[/name_f]
Sybbie
I know a few old ladies known as [name_f]Lil[/name_f] whose full names would be [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
