Thanks so much everyone! I have to say I’m delighted and super excited to see so much love for [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f]. Definitely adding this one to the list.
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]; thanks, happy to see your yes list!!
niteowl; Husband sadly said no to [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] as a first… he likes it for a middle though.
[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]; oh no, poor you! Chronic fatigue sounds exhausting (obviously, duh!). Lots of hugs to you. I’ve been loving [name_f]Ourania[/name_f] for soooo long, she’s my favourite muse, it’s always great to see her suggested. Build my confidence up a bit. Your suggestions were very helpful! Thanks for picking out your favourites!
[name_u]Angel[/name_u]; yes, someone did! how weird would it be to have a little you in the house? ;). Your comments… I knew you’d be championing [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]. Hesperia - Husband likes this better than Hespera, he thinks it’s more feminine, lighter or something. Eostre is very much melting snow and snowdrops to me. It’s one of those names so evocative of nature it almost blows my mind away, I can kind of smell the change in the air. Knew you’d back [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] too, and [name_f]Melusine[/name_f] even though she’s a bit farther down. I’m a bit sad you don’t like [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], but I do too have one slight issue with her. It’s different than yours, but still. It kind of bugs me that it’s a feminisation, and that the namesake is a man. I still love the name though, we’re just working on a pros and cons list. [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] - I don’t like dora names in general, [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] is the exception. I think dora works really well in this name, it fits, it’s not frilly or cutesy. Husband goes back and forth, but I’m working on it. Right now he’s yes, and he’s about to start reading the [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_u]Rice[/name_u] novel. I play [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] songs for him. Nyneve - we go a bit back and forth and round in circles about which one we like the most. Nyneve and Niniane are the two we like the most. I’m glad you like [name_f]Ourania[/name_f], [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f] and Polymnia even though you’re not crazy about them with [name_f]Dita[/name_f]. Thanks for all your comment, I’ll get back to the [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] issue at the bottom. Oh, and nice combos! I’m tucking them away for later use!
Niteowl; [name_f]Callisto[/name_f] is not a contender because she and Sylvestra are exactly the same in my head. So she’s one of Sylvestra’s middles. I do love [name_f]Morwenna[/name_f], and Proserpina too, and the latter has been on my list but I like Polyhymnia/Polymnia more, and [name_f]Morwenna[/name_f] is too close to [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] and [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f]. Thanks for the suggestions though, they’re good ones! Lysithea is really pretty, middle material.
Elja; Thanks for comments! I love [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], but now that I think about it, I shouldn’t do both [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] and [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]. I guess…? [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] beats Eostre for me too, but Eostre is very very close behind her so if we decide to use [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] as a middle I’d be happy to have Eostre as a first. And she’s a Germanic/Norse [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] which makes her interesting… [name_f]Hortensia[/name_f] - was that her name? That creepy creepy sick woman? I love Midsomer Murders but I haven’t seen it in a long time… [name_f]Ursula[/name_f], I forgot about [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] Buffay! She’s worse than the sea witch. And my children are more likely to watch Friends than TLM as I don’t like that movie. But… it might be a tough name to pull off. I mean, she will be a beauty but it might not be fun to have the name of a sea witch when sis has the name of the [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] of beauty. I like both Vespertine and Vesperina too, I love names that end in -a (surprise!), but Vespertine is so fragile, like a snowflake. Again, thank you!
[name_f]Amy[/name_f]; read it all did you! OH, your [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] comment makes me happy. I know you’ve got [name_m]Sirius[/name_m] issues (as do I!), but thanks for supporting me. I agree about [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] and Tinuviel, will come back to that at the bottom. [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f], what I really love about this is how fierce and warrioresque she is. And she doesn’t end in an -a unlike almost all the other names on my list! Same goes for Vespertine. I know you love this one. Thanks for taking the time to chime in, hope you and [name_m]Dom[/name_m] had fun yesterday!
Sorceress; thanks for commenting on all, and for a top five! Great!
[name_f]Pernille[/name_f]; not a Tolkien girl? Hmm… Isn’t Ylva as a nn fantastic? I’m still patting myself on the shoulder over that one. [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f], you’re spot on. It’s very strong and capable which I adore. [name_f]Pandora[/name_f], Husband is the one with [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] issues. I’m working on it, I’ve done it before… with [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] will work. I hope.
[name_f]Fey[/name_f]; muahaha, a bit to drink, eh? [name_u]Lucky[/name_u] you. Thanks for all the comments. You picked [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]! Whoa! I guess I was sleepy to when I posted, I can have more than one from each category, but I wanted at least one from each. [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] and [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] feel very different even though they’re both watery. [name_f]Melusine[/name_f] might be more me. Nyneve almost feels like stealing from you… [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] - isn’t it the coolest thing? He brought it up! He loves [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]. And lots of other tragic names are used, like [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]! [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Lucretia[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]. To mention a few. [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is amazing. HBC is amazing. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I’m not the biggest fan of how she portrayed [name_f]Bella[/name_f] in the movies, she was good. And everything she does is magic. Like wearing mismatched shoes. You’ve been super helpful, love reading your thoughts. Especially the [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] comment here, it makes perfect sense. She has to live in the world where other girls watch TLM and know the sea witch’s name. Good point. Thanks so much for all your comments, and for the lists.
Whirlie; you’re so cute! Teehee!! Oooh, [name_f]Mia[/name_f] for [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]! I hadn’t even thought about that one. So cute, I love [name_f]Mia[/name_f]! Oh My Goodness, you’re so right about Libertas! And some of your comments had me laughing pretty hard. Husband’s not beardy - I wish he’d grow one! He’s a typical five day beard man. Thanks for the suggestions, I do love [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] but Husband does not.
[name_f]Tiff[/name_f]; I know! I swear I’m not trying to upset you though. [name_f]Soraya[/name_f] will be a middle, I love it so much and the namesake was smashing. [name_f]Ourania[/name_f]'s O-rah-nee-ah (long o). Haunting! That’s the best word to describe Vespertine. She feels like a haunting snow spirit or something.
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]; I think you’re right. I’ll get back to it later, but there’s something about [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f]. I’ve loved this name since I was a little child, and the only reason it hasn’t been on the list before was the surname thing. [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], haha, time to say goodbye. I have that song in my head now… not a bad thing! Thanks for commenting on the names, the epic Greek name theme might be too much… I might just put Panda away for now. We’ll see. Polymnia, no, I don’t see polygamy! Not until now anyway. I just see most-adorable-nickname-ever ([name_f]Polly[/name_f]) and mnia (which I thought was [name_f]Mina[/name_f] as a child. Polymina. That’s what I see. I’m glad you like Hesperia, even though you like Vespertine more. I’m not sure which I like better, there is something strangely haunting and ethereal about Vespertine. It’s almost spooky, which I like.
[name_u]Lexie[/name_u]; yay! Another [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] fan! And I’m crazy excited that you like [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f], [name_f]Ourania[/name_f] and [name_f]Hortensia[/name_f]/[name_f]Ortensia[/name_f]. I was starting to feel down here…
Averella; thanks for commenting and picking your favourites! Yes, there will be a showdown… I love [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] though. My own little [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f]. Sigh!!
[name_f]Meg[/name_f]; Meh, I don’t mind a little demon here and there. Thanks for the ranking, it’s very helpful! Interesting to see an actual ranking of all the names, haha!!
Sessha; your [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Ceri[/name_f]/Nuvi comments make sense, and I will address it shortly. To the rest of your comments! There are too many good A names. Too darn many… [name_f]Atalanta[/name_f] though… swoon! [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I see this name I die a little. I’m excited about your [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] comments, like I said to [name_f]Fey[/name_f], HBC rocks! Eostre - estrogen? I’m starting to think one of two things, either I’m very stupid or other people actually look for weird associations in names. Eostre and estrogen are so different. But I get what you say though. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to see you liking Hesperia, it’s Husband’s choice. He feels it’s more feminine. Orithyia was on our list for two seconds but Husband doesn’t really want a name with th or ph sounds. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t ask me why. Nyneve, there is no clear right pronunciation as far as I know. It’s too old and too obscure. It’s ny-neev or ny-nih-vee as far as I’ve figured out (I think something like this), we use the former. I say [name_f]Ourania[/name_f] o-rah-nee-ah (long o at the beginning). The Italian way. Knew you’d be loving [name_f]Pandora[/name_f], glad to see you coming around to [name_f]Polly[/name_f] even though it’s not your favourite. Xantippe made me laugh! She’s off. Thanks so much for all the comments, and for the ranking. Oh, and for the [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] comments too! Yay!
[name_f]Dina[/name_f]; Thanks for the comments! [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], that’s how I feel when I see the name. It’s like a clear midnight sky so filled with stars it takes your breath away. For [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f] I was thinking [name_m]Mori[/name_m], [name_u]Ori[/name_u], [name_f]Moa[/name_f], [name_m]Iggy[/name_m], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Mora[/name_f], [name_f]Moria[/name_f].
AiW; thank you! [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f] does feel more right. Maybe because I have a feeling this baby is very fierce, headstrong and wild? I like that [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] is easily recognisable as Tolkien too. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]'s obviously a [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] name.
Whirlie; aren’t his paintings gorgeous? [name_f]Venus[/name_f] Verticordia, [name_f]Pandora[/name_f], A Vision of [name_f]Fiammetta[/name_f], Lady [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]… The Blessed Damozel, La Ghirlandata… and my very favourite, [name_f]Beata[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. All so beautiful!
Okay, the [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] - Tinuviel - [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f] triangle. I think I’m going to keep them all for now. Husband has in the past rejected the two last ones on several occasions. I love Tinuviel, the name is utter cuteness and beauty, the character is great, brave, loyal and tough, but, as several have pointed out, she is just as good in the middle. [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] is more namelike which Husband enjoys, and she was a human being. I like that. She’s one of the best characters ever written, she’s got so much going on, emotions, bravery, guts, wisdom, love, strength. She’s captivating. And the name is a beauty all in itself. [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f] is a cool goddess, but right now I’m willing to part with her. But I’m not going to quite yet. I will let them brew for a while and see what’s up!
