I have a writing assignment to make a modern short story with the same kind of plot structure as the Odyssey. As a writer, I’m gonna have a lot of fun with this! Great way to spend a [name_m]Saturday[/name_m] afternoon. [name_m]Just[/name_m] one thing.
The character I’m going to use as a parallel for [name_m]Odysseus[/name_m] would benefit greatly from a name that sounds modern but is somehow a play on words, but I’m blanking, so help me out? If not, it’s okay, I’ll just name him something like [name_m]Tom[/name_m] or whatever. That is all.
Oasis? meaning dry area
because he won’t be able to go near water due to Poseidon’s hatred towards Odysseus
(if i’m wrong you can correct me lmao i’m a bit rusty on greek mythology)

That’s an excellent name! Your mythology is pretty solid - although in the text he does go near and in the water, and nearly drowns a few times - but that line of reasoning does show up in other stories. Such as [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] where the main character just doesn’t do air travel, ever. I’ll definitely keep that in my pocket and see if it works out. Thank you!

We were considering naming our baby boy Odyssey, which could work in this context.
