A question about Aveline

I have searched through the forum posts on [name_f]Aveline[/name_f]. There are at least 8 posts questioning how to pronounce [name_f]Aveline[/name_f].

Obviously there is a lot of confusion around this name. The correct pronunciation seems to be av-e-LEEN, or av-LEEN (like ‘avenue’) However, there are a lot of people saying that they say [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] as [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-LEEN. And then there is of course the [name_f]LINE[/name_f]/LEEN debate as well.

So my question is do you think this may be one of the names where there are 2-3 acceptable/common (not necessarily correct) pronunciations? And is [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-LEEN considered to be an acceptable pronunciation for this name?

I assumed it was [name_f]AveLINE[/name_f], but AveLEEN seems to be a valid option as well. This is based on my opinion. Example, I have seen [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] pronounced as [name_f]MadeLINE[/name_f], MadeLEEN, and [name_f]MadeLYNN[/name_f]. Also, the same for [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f].
The [name_f]Line[/name_f] ending always makes me wonder, not matter what the name is, if the ending is pronounced as [name_f]Line[/name_f], Leen, or [name_u]Lynn[/name_u].
I sometimes wish name websites included something like “All acceptable pronunciations” so it wouldn’t be as confusing.

I’ve always pronounced it Av-uh-lynn. I assume, depending on what part of the world you’re in, that you can just pronounce it however you like?

I agree the line ending always makes me wonder.
I’m hoping [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] is likened to names like [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]. All beautiful names with several acceptable pronunciations.

I definitely think there are several pronunciations for this name. If you don’t like the confusion over [name_f]LINE[/name_f] or LEEN, maybe spell it Avelene? I have a friend with that name and I find that I prefer that spelling myself.

I always pronounce it av-e-LEEN.

I would say Av uh leen, but there is a possibility of prn issues. It’s a lovely name.

I agree, there are a lot of pronunciations
