A sibling for Barrett

Halllllp!

Our son [name_u]Barrett[/name_u], nn [name_m]Bear[/name_m], is nearly 2 - we settled on his name effortlessly as the name ticked all of our “must haves” at the time:

  1. [name_m]German[/name_m] origin to honor my husbands heritage
  2. Double consonant name like mine
  3. [name_u]Unique[/name_u] but not kitchy or too “out there”

For baby #2 we are at a total standstill. We’re willing to budge on a Germanic name  if we find something that we love, but are firm on the second and third criteria again.

Boys names we’ve considered but ultimately vetoed:

  • [name_m]Finnick[/name_m] (DH isn’t a fan of the Hunger Games reference)
  • [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] (again, the movie reference)
  • [name_m]Callum[/name_m]/[name_m]Callan[/name_m] (a bit to trendy and doesn’t seem substantial enough when paired with [name_u]Barrett[/name_u])
  • Schaeffer (same as above)

Would love something that also lends itself to a cute nickname!

This is a pretty tall order due to the strict criteria. I think your best course of action for ideas is to download the names.zip file for the name data and then just scoll down and look through the more uncommon boys for names that fit your criteria.

These attempt to satisfy your criteria, except maybe the Germanic origin:

[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] (nn. [name_u]Kit[/name_u]) – loving [name_m]Bear[/name_m] & [name_u]Kit[/name_u]!
[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] (nn. [name_u]Dash[/name_u], [name_m]Dax[/name_m])
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] (nn. [name_m]Fin[/name_m])
[name_u]Lennox[/name_u] (nn. [name_m]Len[/name_m], [name_u]Lex[/name_u])
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m] (nn. [name_u]Matty[/name_u], [name_m]Ty[/name_m])
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] (nn. [name_u]Rafe[/name_u])
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] (nn. [name_u]Sully[/name_u], [name_u]Van[/name_u])

One of my favourites that fits your criteria is [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] nn [name_m]Fin[/name_m]. It’s a stands out, fits in kind of name.

I love [name_u]Barrett[/name_u] nn [name_m]Bear[/name_m].
Good luck!

Unfortunately I can’t give you all three. The not too kitschy rule is achievable. And honestly so is the double constant rule.

If you are willing to forgo the german rule -

[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_m]Winston[/name_m]
[name_m]Eleazar[/name_m]
[name_m]Luther[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Quintus[/name_m]
[name_m]Harold[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m]
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m]
[name_m]Dennis[/name_m]

Oooooh that’s too bad, I really like [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] for you.

[name_m]Killian[/name_m]
[name_m]Willem[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u]
[name_m]Otto[/name_m]
[name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]
Altmann
[name_m]Ansell[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m]

What about [name_m]Gunner[/name_m]? [name_u]Barrett[/name_u] and [name_m]Gunner[/name_m] would make a super sibset!!

[name_m]Ansell[/name_m]
[name_m]Errol[/name_m]
[name_m]Garrick[/name_m]
[name_m]Hewitt[/name_m] “[name_m]Hugh[/name_m]”/“Whitt”
[name_m]Kellan[/name_m]
[name_m]Warren[/name_m]
[name_u]Wallace[/name_u] “[name_m]Ace[/name_m]”/"[name_u]Wally[/name_u]"
[name_m]Rocco[/name_m]
[name_m]Willis[/name_m] “[name_m]Wills[/name_m]”

[name_m]Gustav[/name_m] is one I’ve liked for some time. I had a [name_m]German[/name_m] uncle named [name_u]August[/name_u] that would fit with your baby’s birth month.
Although [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is technically three syllables, it is basically pronounced [name_m]Fred[/name_m]-rick so sounds like two. [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m] and [name_m]Gunter[/name_m] I like as well.

[name_m]Calloway[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Cal[/name_u])
[name_m]Finnian[/name_m] or [name_m]Finnigan[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u])
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
[name_m]Breccan[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Beck[/name_u])
[name_m]Taggart[/name_m] (nn Tag)
[name_m]Maddox[/name_m]
[name_m]Madden[/name_m]
