We are expecting baby number 2 soon and still haven’t decided on a name. We don’t know the sex, so we need both boys and girls names.
Our son’s name is [name]Rufus[/name] and our surname starts with McD. It needs to be a name that can be shortened into a great nickname (it’s just something I always end up doing). We don’t want anything that is currently popular.
So far these are possibilities:
GIRL
[name]Edith[/name] - nn [name]Edie[/name]
[name]Delilah[/name] - nn lilah
BOY
[name]Dexter[/name] - nn [name]Dex[/name]
My partner also really likes [name]Hamish[/name], but I think it sounds a bit boring.
What do you think? Suggestions please.
UPDATE
We now have a 3 day old baby boy who still remains nameless. Dexter has been taken off the list and Felix and Hamish are the front runners. These are both my husbands suggestions. I just can’t seem to find anything to contribute. I’d really love something that’s timeless, a bit quirky and not popular. What are your thoughts? Anymore suggestions?
To the person who asked what Rufus’ nickname is, it’s Ruff (rough).
I love [name]Rufus[/name]! I also love [name]Edith[/name] and [name]Dexter[/name] and think either of those would be a great fit. [name]Delilah[/name] is kinda meh for me; I’m not really sure about [name]Hamish[/name] since it’s so rarely heard in the States.
Some other ideas:
[name]Agatha[/name] ([name]Aggie[/name])
[name]Anthea[/name] ([name]Thea[/name] or [name]Annie[/name])
[name]Helena[/name] ([name]Lena[/name])
[name]Jessamyn[/name] ([name]Jessie[/name])
[name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Marguerite[/name] ([name]Maggie[/name])
I like [name]Rufus[/name]! I would pair it with [name]Mabel[/name] or [name]Esther[/name]. Or if it’s a boy, maybe [name]Casper[/name] or [name]Amos[/name].
I think the sound of [name]Rufus[/name] & [name]Edith[/name], that would be gorgeous! I don’t [name]Rufus[/name] and [name]Delilah[/name] together, despite the fact I love the name [name]Delilah[/name]. As for the boy’s name [name]Hamish[/name] is a lot less popular than [name]Dexter[/name], it doesn’t even rank in the top 1000 in the US. [name]Do[/name] you live in the US? [name]Just[/name] to make you aware [name]Dexter[/name] is one of the fast rising boy’s names in the UK, and also in the US it moved up 70 places between 2010-2011, but has moved up 532 places in 5 years so therefore it’s pretty trendy right now, although it does sound good with [name]Rufus[/name].
I love [name]Edith[/name] with the nn [name]Edie[/name]. [name]How[/name] about [name]Frederick[/name] nn [name]Fritz[/name] or Haymitch for boys names?
Okay, I have to ask - What is [name]Rufus[/name]’ nn?
I am fond of [name]Edie[/name], but [name]Edith[/name] is not very appealing. What about [name]Edina[/name] instead?
I love [name]Dexter[/name] and [name]Dex[/name], but the name is actually becoming quite popular. Another name I love is [name]Desmond[/name] - nn [name]Des[/name]. It is similar to [name]Dexter[/name]…
These are my suggestions for you:
[name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Helen[/name], [name]Ellen[/name], [name]Cornelia[/name] or [name]Penelope[/name] - nn [name]Nell[/name]
[name]Eudora[/name] or [name]Theodora[/name] - nn [name]Dora[/name] or [name]Dory[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name] - nn [name]Dottie[/name], [name]Dot[/name] or [name]Dory[/name]
[name]Winifred[/name] or [name]Edwina[/name] - nn [name]Winnie[/name]
[name]Florence[/name] - nn [name]Florrie[/name] or [name]Flossie[/name]
[name]Marigold[/name] - nn [name]Goldie[/name]
[name]Abraham[/name] or [name]Abram[/name] nn [name]Bram[/name], [name]Abe[/name]
[name]Walter[/name] or [name]Walton[/name] - nn [name]Walt[/name]
[name]Walden[/name]
[name]Duncan[/name]
[name]Dunstan[/name]
[name]Heathcliff[/name] - nn [name]Heath[/name] or [name]Cliff[/name]
