A sister for Arthur

Hello! We’re having a little girl next year - a sister for Arthur Edward.

I love Arthur’s name! like that Arthur is classic, vintage, storybook, old-manish, Celtic, mythological, solid but still soft. I’m attracted to Victorian/Edwardian era names.

On the list for first names we both like are Eleanor, Gwendolen and Hazel (although this last is a bit too popular where we live). Other names I love - Clara and Beatrice. He loves Daphne and Lucy.

So, Eleanor or Gwendolen? Or something else inspired. Any killer middle name suggestions?

Many thanks!

Of the two, my favourite is [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] would be nice

Other suggestions - [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], [name_f]Rowenna[/name_f] / [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] would allow you to incorporate both. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f] are lovely too.

Good suggestions. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] was on our boy’s list for [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] too.

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] are both lovely choices. I have a bit of a preference for [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] as [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] sound quite similar with their vowels and rhyming endings (depending on how you’d be pronouncing [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], of course).

Middle ideas:

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f]Ciara[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] (bright and sunshiney!)
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] both sound lovely with [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. Using some of your other favourites:
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] / [name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_u]Hazel[/name_u]

Congratulations! :sunny:
I actually think that [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] (if [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is pronounced more as Ellana) flows well! And even if it’s not pronounced like that, it would make such an amazing name. Some might think it’s a bit clunky, but gosh how beautiful and cool! :star_struck:

I also really love [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] from the list. [name_f]My[/name_f] personal favourite combo for [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] Eleanor/ [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]. And I quite love [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. :tulip:

Maybe you’d like

[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] (I wish I could recommend [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], but it obviously shouldn’t be used)

[name_f]Yvaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]

I actually know the cutest little siblings named [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] , they go by [name_u]Artie[/name_u] & [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. So I’m personally a big fan!

I absolutely love all of your name contenders

If I were to pick from the criteria and names you like I would go with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f]

[name_u]Love[/name_u] your style! [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] sound lovely together. [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] is also a lovely name but I feel it might be too close to [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], especially if it gets shortened to [name_f]Gwen[/name_f].

That aside, all of your suggestions are great! I especially like [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - maybe they could be used as middle names for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]? [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]?

Some other suggestions:

[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] is one of my all time favorite names! So beautiful

[name_f]My[/name_f] vote is for [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]! [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is also beautiful, but perhaps a little more common than [name_u]Arthur[/name_u].

[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite boy name is [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]. [name_u]Edward[/name_u] is one of my favourite [name_f]English[/name_f] names too. You have great taste.

I have on my list: [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_f]Frida[/name_f]. Other ideas I like with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] are [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_f]Anouk[/name_f], [name_f]Antonia[/name_f], [name_f]Amabel[/name_f], [name_f]Alcina[/name_f] for two names starting with A. Otherwise [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], [name_f]Helen[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Klara[/name_f] (I like it with a K), [name_f]Minerva[/name_f], Cléophée could be ideas (all of different styles).

I like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] would be great, taking inspo from your list.

What about [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], too?

Of your list I like [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. And [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f].

I wouldn’t do [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] due to the [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] association.

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is a great choice! [name_u]Bright[/name_u], elegant, understated, soft but strong!

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Clarice[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] came to mind

Huge congratulations :tada:

A.rthur Edw@rd is such a sweet cosy name. For me the name has this overall warm autumnal feel oversized jumpers, leaves crunching under wellies and carved pumpkins. I think you should definitely embrace that cosy autumnal feel. Looking at your names I think [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] despite her popularity would be gorgeous. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is also lovely very classic and rich in history. I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] works very well with A.rthur!
Finally [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] takes on a different spin adds a very romantic Victorian [name_u]England[/name_u] feel. I like [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] a lot she’s so unexpected and elegant.
Between [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] & [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] my favourite is [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] she’s just a more natural fit.

You’ve had lots of lovely suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries

Pleaaaaaaaaaseeeee Gwendolen/ Gwendolyn…Eleanor is too popular IMO and [name_u]Artie[/name_u] & Gwenie are so cute together as well as names that will age well along with them!

Try:

[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] ** my favorite because it’s subtle shoutout to Victorian while Edward’s is for Edwardian
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f]Marietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]

Other name suggestions/ middles for your faves (although I think you’ve nailed it with Gwendolen)

[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] is too close to [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] so my vote goes to [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] since the association is less obvious with [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] in the middle. I also like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] paired with all the other names you mentioned, [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] is my favorite.

How about Arthur Edward &

Eleanor Beatrice
Eleanor Frances
Eleanor Daphne
Eleanor Celeste
Eleanor Meredith
Eleanor Delphine (though Leonor Delphine better)
Eleanor Lucy
Gwendolen Lucy
Gwendolen Faye
Gwendolen Hazel
Gwendolen Ivy
Gwendolyn Mary
Gwendolen Elise
Gwendolen Irene
Gwendolen Vera
Gwendolen Verity

(I like Gwendolen Kate too but don’t think it quite matches.)

I think Eleanor looks like tailored and pretty pairing with Arthur and gives you plenty of nn options (including Nora and Leni), but I’m not an Ellie/Elle fan and it’d be too high risk for me to go for an El name in top spot (I would go Leonor/Leonora/Lenore/Leontine). Meanwhile, Gwendolen takes the set into the arena of myth and legend, which is super charming if that’s the aim. It would be my pick of the two!

Other names you might like with Arthur Edward (or to mix and match with Eleanor & Gwendolen):

Jessamine Lucy
Gwyneira Lisette /Lucette
Lydia Rosaline
Romola Benedicte
Cordelia Bronte
Bronwyn Aileen/Aline
