A sister for Hera Clementine?

There is no real baby (yet), but my wife and I are planning on TTC in less than a year (!!!) and my list is suddenly looking a lot less theoretical.

One of my favourite combos is [name_f]Hera[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], and I’m thinking about sister names that would have that same brightness and power. Nothing is fully clicking for me.

First names I’ve considered:

LaRue - A family name with a lot of personal meaning, but I’m worried it’s too out there for the first name slot.

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] / [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - [name_f]Beautiful[/name_f] and simple, but [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is top 100 and rising where I am and both are Greek mythology names, which feels maybe a bit too matchy next to [name_f]Hera[/name_f]?

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] “Roxy” - Another favourite combo and a strong contender, but I’d like to see other options as well. [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] and [name_f]Hera[/name_f] does feel cute together though.

Potential middles to match [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]: [name_f]Orleanna[/name_f], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]

What I’m looking for in a sister name:

  1. Something short and sweet (one or two syllables) but with a lot of gravitas
  2. Out of the top 100 in the US or UK, preferably out of the top 500, but still familiar.
  3. Something with a strong meaning. [name_f]Hera[/name_f] means “protectress” which I love for a girl.
  4. I love the idea of a name that ends in an unusual sound like a consonant, u, or o, though I’m very open to names that end in a or e as well.

Thank you so much for your thoughts!

Absolutely love Hera Clementine :tangerine:

My thoughts on your other names

LaRue ~ I think LaRue is a quirky bold choice that feels modern and creative. She’s not my usual style however I think personal meaning is so important therefore I wouldn’t dismiss this choice. Maybe LaRue could work as a middle name like you say I think Phoebe LaRue or Iris LaRue could be fun.

Phoebe ~ I think she’s fun, bright and energetic with a playful quality as well as a lovely meaning. Phoebe could feel a little themed with Hera but still I enjoy the sibling set. I think names with a similar feel to Phoebe could be Poppy, Sophie, Faye or Primrose.

Iris ~ Absolutely love Iris I think she’s beautiful, whimsy and has sweet cottagecore imagery through her connection to the flowers/rainbows through the meaning. Again I can see she’s a little matchy with Hera but similarly I like the sibling set. Names similar to Iris that you may like are Eloise, Violet, Hazel, Ivy & Beatrice.

Rosalie Fox ~ I really love this combination I think Rosalie is beautiful such a sweet, floral name which feels whimsy and elegant. I think Fox makes a fun middle name! The overall combination is gorgeous and I love the nickname Roxy. I think Hera Clementine + Rosalie Fox are perfect.

Regarding middle names I’m really drawn to Lavender she’s perfection such a sugary sweet vintage name that feels warm and cosy.

Hera Clementine and…

Goldie LaRue
Cosette Lavender
Astrid Lavender
Ingrid Lavender
Coralie Aurora
Blythe Orleanna
Fern LaRue
Juliet Lavender
Verity Lavender
Romilly Lavender
Eden LaRue

Hope this helps

Ooh, tough criteria!

I actually love [name_f]Hera[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and don’t think they sound ‘too Greek’ at all. [name_f]She[/name_f] is perhaps more popular than you want, though. Same goes for [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f].

I like LaRue as a middle more than a first. [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] ‘Roxy’ is cute but not sure I see her vibing with [name_f]Hera[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], if you want a cohesive set?

[name_m]You[/name_m] might like ~

[name_f]Delphi[/name_f] ‘womb’
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f] ‘noble’
[name_f]Ida[/name_f] ‘industrious’
[name_f]Maud[/name_f] ‘battle-mighty’
[name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] ‘oracle’
[name_f]Ursa[/name_f] ‘bear’
[name_f]Caro[/name_f] ‘free man’
[name_m]Saro[/name_m] ‘princess’
[name_f]Hebe[/name_f] ‘youth’
[name_f]Avis[/name_f] ‘bird’
[name_f]Iphis[/name_f] ‘strong’
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] ‘golden’
[name_f]Valda[/name_f] ‘battle heroine’
[name_f]Xenia[/name_f] ‘welcoming’
[name_f]Lux[/name_f] ‘light’

Hmm. With [name_f]Hera[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], I’ll suggest (feel free to mix and match, obviously) :

Lunneth/Lunette [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (rarer first and both very sky themed) with [name_f]Luna[/name_f] for an accessible nickname or Neth for an unusual one or Nettie/Una for a stretchy one.

[name_f]Lore[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] - I think this first stands out against [name_f]Hera[/name_f] but also uniquely matches her. Unsure how you feel about alliterative beginnings but I chose this one to avoid the repeated vowel sounds from [name_f]Lore[/name_f] with both [name_f]Orleanna[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].

[name_f]Zennor[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]- I love this one because of its gravitas, its mythological connection like [name_f]Hera[/name_f], and its appealing nicknames of [name_m]Zen[/name_m] or Nor/Nora.

[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] [name_f]Orleanna[/name_f] - Unexpected and lovely. Greek but not immediately thought of as a part of the mythos.

[name_f]Ivette[/name_f] [name_f]Orleanna[/name_f]- associated with strength and resilience but still presents a feminine air, this pairs well with [name_f]Hera[/name_f] IMO.

Hopefully these help!

Ooh I really like [name_f]Hera[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]! Haven’t seen [name_f]Hera[/name_f] in the forum in a while and it is such a lovely surprise.

LaRue - not the biggest fan, sorry. Don’t get me wrong, it is cute and I like how it’s meaningful to you, but I just see “the street”. Maybe in the middle spot?

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - beautiful and simple indeed. If you pair [name_f]Hera[/name_f] with something like Artemis/Athena/Demeter, etc then yes it’s a very strong Greek myth theme, but [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] blend in more easily so not too matchy at all.

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] - I LOVE this combo and I think [name_f]Hera[/name_f] and [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] sound so good together. [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] itself is a syllable longer than your preference and in the Top 200 though. If that’s ok, it’s all good.

Suggestions (I’ll include a few 3 syllables as well):

[name_f]Callisto[/name_f] “most beautiful”. Bonus point: in the greek myth, she became constellation [name_f]Ursa[/name_f] [name_m]Major[/name_m].

[name_f]Clio[/name_f] “glory” - muse of history and heroic poetry.

[name_f]Idony[/name_f] - Norse goddess of spring and eternal youth.

[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] “Ice ruler”

[name_f]Morgan[/name_f] “sea born”

[name_f]Althea[/name_f] “with healing power”

[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] “golden/yellow”

[name_f]Gaia[/name_f] “earth mother”

[name_f]Enid[/name_f] “life/spirit”

[name_m]Aster[/name_m] "star” - and of course it’s a flower too

[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] “order” - [name_f]Coco[/name_f] and [name_f]Cozy[/name_f] for nickname options

[name_f]Noor[/name_f] “light”

[name_f]Soleil[/name_f] “sun"

My first thought for Hera’s sister was Una/Oona. [name_f]Hera[/name_f] and [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] is adorable too. I like [name_f]Una[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] from your middle name options. Thank you so much everyone! I loved reading over your suggestions and talking them over with my wife. It’s been really eye opening.

@tori101 - Thank you so much for your kind words. Your suggestions were excellent - I love [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f], and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] is brilliant and would probably be on my list already if it weren’t my niece’s name already. But my favourite is [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] [name_f]Orleanna[/name_f]. I love that combo and it’s immediately going on my list.

@Greyblue - How did I not think of [name_f]Brontë[/name_f]? She’s perfect with [name_f]Hera[/name_f] imo - a strong thunder meaning, literary history, strong and feminine. And with three [name_f]Brontë[/name_f] sisters, there’s so much extra literary flexibility. If she’s not a Wuthering Heights girl, there’s always [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f], you know? My wife also liked the idea of calling her our little brontësaurus, which is adorable. I think this one is it.

I also found out my wife likes [name_m]Adair[/name_m], so that’s going on our long list as well. Thank you!
