My mum is moving house from my childhood home. On the weekend I went back to help pack up my old room and found my 3 childhood dolls - [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] and [name_m]Timothy[/name_m]. I still love those names and am pretty proud of my 5-6 year old self and her naming tastes. Anyone else have childhood toys out there that had fabulous names that you’re impressed you named?
My the first doll I remember getting I named [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. I also had dolls named [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], & [name_f]Grace[/name_f] that I named myself. All the dolls I had before them were named for me (the two I can remember were [name_m]Peter[/name_m] and [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u]). I personally think I was a better namer at five than my parents were as adults.
Nope. LOL! I had a doll that I named “Big [name_u]Baby[/name_u]” because…she was a baby and she was big (comparatively). I was like 2 when I got her, so I think that’s understandable. When I played with her when I was older, I would call her whatever name I wanted at that time, a lot of times she was even a boy in my games. But, officially she was a girl named “Big [name_u]Baby[/name_u]”.
Most of the other dolls I had came already named. [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Linnea[/name_f], [name_f]Kirsten[/name_f], [name_u]Allison[/name_u] (all book characters), [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] [name_u]Robin[/name_u] (a Cabbage Patch kid…what a dumb name. I hated it then, too, but she came with a birth certificate, so I felt I couldn’t change it.) I also got a doll once when I went to an antique shop with my dad (she wasn’t really an antique, though). She had a piece of masking tape on her back that said “[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f]” which I took to be her name, but now that I think about it it may have been the name of the girl who used to own her.
I had dolls named [name_m]Connor[/name_m], [name_f]Lois[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Norma[/name_f] (in all fairness, this was my Grandma’s name), and [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] (my other grandmother).
Hahah, not really. I didn’t play much with dolls - but I certainly played with Barbies - and they didn’t really have a name, just a whole boatload of different names, but mainly all of them just were [name_f]Barbie[/name_f].
I also had a few teddy bears. My earliest one that I technically stole from my brother, since I disliked my own, I named [name_m]Harald[/name_m]. I hate that name. I often thought about changing it, but I always went back to [name_m]Harald[/name_m]. When I was nine I and my sister got a bear - I named her [name_f]Laura[/name_f] on the birth certificate, and I prompted my sister to name her’s [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
I also had two other… I don’t remember the names exactly, but they were identical, one just was lighter grey and the other darker grey. Lighter-[name_u]Grey[/name_u] was the first one, I got the Darker-[name_u]Grey[/name_u] three-four years after. Well, those were obviously not their names, I just remember I gave them near-identical names… [name_m]Just[/name_m] not what…
