A Vision of Fiammetta!

I’m head over heels in love with the name [name]Fiammetta[/name]! A week or so back my boyfriend and I started looking at middle names, and (by accident) put two O names in the middle. Which led to initials FOO… I am not at all a nickname person, but now I am obsessed with having a little flame called Foo. The problem is O names are limited, and as much as I love them, most of them sound kind of similar. These are the ones we’ve got already: [name]Octavia[/name], Oenone, [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Olwen[/name], [name]Olympia[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name], [name]Orabel[/name], Orchil, Orphne, Orseis, Orthia, Ortygia, [name]Osanna[/name], Ostara, Otrera, [name]Ourania[/name], Oxya & Oya. Any other suggestions? We want the name to sound sweet, warm and golden, like a little flame.

Other names we’ve been thinking of are Flaxen, [name]June[/name] and [name]Xanthe[/name], although they would not make a Foo nickname…

Any other flaming little names come to mind? Combo suggestions would be welcome as well. We’ve been thinking about [name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Olwen[/name] Ostara or [name]Fiammetta[/name] Orseis [name]Ourania[/name].

[name]Fiammetta[/name] should have short middle names, because it’s really long and frilly.

[name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Ondine[/name] [name]Orla[/name]
[name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Opal[/name] [name]Osanna[/name]
[name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Onyx[/name] [name]Odette[/name]
[name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Oakley[/name] [name]Oona[/name]

some favorite O names:

[name]Oceane[/name]
[name]Odelia[/name]
[name]Odessa[/name]
[name]Odette[/name]
[name]Ofira[/name]
[name]Olea[/name]
[name]Olesia[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Omarosa[/name]
[name]Ondine[/name]
[name]Oona[/name]
[name]Opal[/name]
[name]Ophelie[/name]
[name]Ophira[/name]
[name]Orchid[/name]
[name]Orella[/name]
[name]Oriana[/name]
[name]Oriel[/name]
[name]Orinda[/name]
[name]Orinthia[/name]
[name]Oriole[/name]
Orithyia
[name]Orla[/name]
[name]Orli[/name]
Orca
[name]Orna[/name]
[name]Orpah[/name]
[name]Orphea[/name]
[name]Orsa[/name]
Orsona
Osprey

[name]Odessa[/name] is one of my own personal favorites for girls O names.

I also didn’t see Orianthe/Orianthi (Or-ee-an-thee) mentioned yet.

My latest obsession is an O name- Ofeibea. It’s got the [name]Ophelia[/name] beginning, [name]Fey[/name], and [name]Beatrice[/name] sound at the end. It’s west african I think.

I agree…
[name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Oona[/name] [name]Ottilie[/name] (I think if you go with two O mn’s consider using your own it would be a really nice connection between you and your LO).
[name]Fiammetta[/name] Omid [name]Oriana[/name]
[name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Oba[/name] [name]Onora[/name]
[name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Owena[/name] [name]Ora[/name]

Is [name]Ophelia[/name] vetoed as a mn or just a fn? Because I really like [name]Fiammetta[/name] Oya [name]Ophelia[/name].

[name]Ottilie[/name], I love [name]Fiammetta[/name] for you! It just seems perfect. I can see you with a little [name]Fiammetta[/name]. Foo is pretty cute, too.

[name]How[/name] do you feel about [name]Orchid[/name] as a name? It’s sort of GPish for a lot of people, but I can see you using it. I think something like [name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Orchid[/name] [name]Olivia[/name] would be lovely.

Have you run across short form [name]Fiamma[/name]? It stands on its own, but would make a great nn.

Omya = life-giver
[name]Odele[/name] = song or harmony

I also wanted to mention that I’ve fallen completely in love with Illyria, after your previous post

I’ll preface by saying I firmly believe you can call her Foo even if her middle name was [name]Jane[/name]. Nicknames don’t have to be so organic, [name]IMO[/name].

Secondly, I think [name]Fiammetta[/name] is so strong, as a 4-syllable Italianate name ending with A, that for harmony’s sake you should avoid anything similar in the middle. Personally I would not use anything ending in A.

[name]Golden[/name] thoughts: you’re in great good luck that the Latin ‘Aur,’ gold, has come into many languages as ‘Or.’ you have a host of golden options, my favorite being [name]Oriel[/name].

Osanne is a French name with a warm, golden glow; it’s a saints name perhaps derived way, way back from ‘Hosanna.’

[name]Do[/name] you know the legends of Ophir? It was a fabulously wealthy place, with gold and jewels beyond human measure. It drove the ancient world crazy, as did the [name]Legend[/name] of [name]El[/name] Dorado centuries later. Ophir has the same quasi-mythical feel as does Illyria, to me.

So, I like [name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Oriel[/name] Osanne, or [name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Oriel[/name] Ophir.

Woohoo! Hooray for Foo!

Warm names… fiery flowers and tings:
[name]Mimosa[/name]
[name]Maple[/name]
[name]Daffodil[/name] or [name]Jonquil[/name]
[name]Marigold[/name], or marsh-marigold…
While I’m on botanicals, I think [name]Ffion[/name] could be delightful with [name]Fiammetta[/name], though foxglove isn’t exactly fiery.
[name]Peony[/name] -Peonies are so [name]Fiammetta[/name]-like. They were named for Paeon, god of healing. which is nice.
[name]Topaz[/name]
Cardinal
[name]Garnet[/name]
[name]Day[/name]
Tighearnach - a man’s name, but it’s so frickin cool. Irish for “lord” Sounds like “tiger-night” to me… which makes me think of [name]Blake[/name].
[name]Flannery[/name] (“red valor” and [name]Flannery[/name] O’[name]Connor[/name] is an excellent namesake)
[name]Vesta[/name] or [name]Hestia[/name]…
[name]Azar[/name] (fire in Persian)
[name]Saffron[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name]
Heliodora (“gift of the sun” Greek)
Amaterasu (Japanese sun goddess, means “shining over heaven”)
Sunniva
Sounia (epithet of [name]Athena[/name]- from “sun”)
Tesni (you suggested this to me at one point - “warmth of the sun”)
[name]Capucine[/name] (for nasturtium - spicy orange flower, grows in [name]Monet[/name]’s garden)
Vivendel (bring her back!)

O-Names:
Orpin (bright yellow/red pigment, orpin rose - rhodiola… incredible plant, grows in the Himalayas, many medicinal properties)
Odalisque (great painting by Ingres… Ok now that I look it up: an odalisque was basically a geisha, so maybe not… but such a wonderful-sounding word.)
[name]Olympia[/name] ([name]Manet[/name]‘s [name]Olympia[/name] actually beats Ingres’ Odalisque, if you ask me)
[name]Olalla[/name] (variant of [name]Eulalia[/name])
Oleksandra (Ukranian [name]Alexandra[/name])
[name]Olivette[/name] (feminization of [name]Oliver[/name], apparently the heroine of an opera by Audran)
[name]Orla[/name]
[name]Orinda[/name] (from “or” - gold, or
[name]Ouida[/name] (variation of [name]Louise[/name], which I know you love. Nom de plume of eccentric English novelist and socialite [name]Maria[/name] [name]Louise[/name] [name]Ram[/name]é)
Ochre (dunno if it’s a name, but it’s certainly in [name]Fiammetta[/name]’s palette)

I love [name]Olwen[/name] with its beautiful meaning of “white footprint.” Makes me think of someone who “walks in peace.”

You could sacrifice [name]Orlando[/name] to Foo, since it’s quite androgynous. Or not.

I think you could also get Foo from middles that have the oo-sound.
[name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Luned[/name] Rouge for instance. [name]Red[/name] moon!

And [name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Olwen[/name] Ostara is just lovely. Footprints and the sun rising… morning journeys… Ostara from “east toward sunrise” as you surely know.

Hats off to Emms, [name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Saffron[/name] is swoonworthy!! I’ll have to think up some combos and come back when my brain isn’t dead.

Aww Foo, how adorable! I immediately love the image of Ostara, it is so full of sparkle and crackling fires and magic and really seems to compliment [name]Fiammetta[/name] very well. Although if you did use Lexiem’s suggestion of [name]Oona[/name], then you wouldn’t need to find and additional O-middle to get to your nn. I do agree you should tryyy to steer away from similar endings, but I think you could get away with using one mn with an a-ending, especially since it is such a popular one for the O names (just as long as all 3 don’t end the same).

[name]Blade[/name]'s suggestion of Ophir is wonderful, and [name]Emma[/name]'s [name]Olwen[/name] Ostara is gorgeous! I know you like those -wen names. I supppse [name]Ori[/name] is still out of the running? I just love the meaning, pretty perfect for [name]Fiammetta[/name]. You could still use [name]Orli[/name] though (or [name]Orla[/name] but that brings you back to the ends-in-a problem). Hmm, Oinone, [name]Olympe[/name], [name]Onora[/name], Ozark? Another possible idea, I’ll be back to help with if you like…

Would a final O-ending lend itself to the same nn the way you see it? Like [name]Fiammetta[/name] Ostara [name]Callisto[/name]? ([name]Echo[/name], [name]Hero[/name], [name]Socorro[/name], etc)

^^ Naw dude- [name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Olwen[/name] Ostara is [name]Ottilie[/name]'s wonderful invention. [name]Love[/name] it.
I agree with you [name]Amy[/name]- I sometimes really like paired A-endings. Think of all those Russian names… [name]Anna[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] Ivanova… mmm.
[name]Fiammetta[/name] Oleksandra Ostara would be quite… fire in the snow.

[name]Osanna[/name] and Oxanna are my two favorite O names along with [name]Olivia[/name].

Ooh, thank you all so much!

I like so many of the suggestions…

Namelover77: I do like [name]Oona[/name], it’s super cute but I feel weird using such an Irish name for some reason.

Sessha: [name]Omarosa[/name], [name]Ophira[/name], [name]Orinda[/name], [name]Orli[/name], Osprey are all beautiful! [name]Ophelie[/name] is gorgeous, but I think I prefer the -a ending. [name]Orchid[/name], I’m torn on this. It’s a beautiful flower and such a strong little thing, but I have never been able not to kill one. They come into my home and die at my hands every time.

Kibby: Orianthe is gorgeous, I’ve never heard of it before!

Goodkarmavt: Ofeibea is actually very cute, thanks!

[name]Lex[/name]: [name]Ophelia[/name] is only vetoed as a first name, boyfriend really likes it as a middle. Especially with a happy sweet first name. [name]Fiammetta[/name] Oya [name]Ophelia[/name] is gorgeous.

[name]Ash[/name]: Thank you! The baby feels pretty lively and spunky, so I think [name]Fiammetta[/name] would be suitable. As I said above, I don’t have the best history with orchids… but it is a glorious combo. Maybe Orchil [name]Ophelia[/name] instead?

[name]Augusta[/name]: [name]Fiamma[/name] would be a sweet nickname, could definitely do that as well!

Jyoti: I like [name]Odele[/name]! Very pretty and elegant, and still feels warm and sweet. I’m so glad you’re loving Illyria, it’s so pretty isn’t it?

BladeyBlade: I forgot [name]Oriel[/name] which I love! Thank you! And Ophir and Osanne are both gorgeous names with fantastic associations! I’m glad you think I can still use Foo, I’m pretty set on it in my head!

[name]Emma[/name]: I’m actually blaming you for my new found fondness of cute and spunky nicknames! I love [name]Peony[/name], peonies is one of my favourite flowers! I also love [name]Garnet[/name], [name]Azar[/name], [name]Saffron[/name] (!!), Tesni, [name]Capucine[/name], Vivendel, Orpin, [name]Olympia[/name], Oleksandra and [name]Olivette[/name]. I agree that [name]Olympia[/name] is a masterpiece, I do love [name]Manet[/name] so much. [name]Olivette[/name] is super cute, but would that rule out [name]Oliver[/name] for a boy?

[name]Lori[/name]: yay, lori-combos! I love the [name]Olive[/name] [name]Ondine[/name], [name]Olive[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name], [name]Orly[/name] [name]Oceana[/name] and [name]Orly[/name] [name]Ophira[/name] ones especially!

[name]Amy[/name]: Thank you, I think Ostara suits [name]Fiammetta[/name] very well. [name]Ori[/name] would be perfect, but boyfriend has Hebrew name issues. I do like [name]Onora[/name], it’s so pretty and sweet! And I like your idea of a name that ends in -o, especially [name]Callisto[/name], [name]Hero[/name] and [name]Socorro[/name], they sound amzing with [name]Fiammetta[/name]!

Emms (again): I like similar endings as well, I think it brings a whole ness to things. But it depends on the name. It might be my Russian genes kicking in… [name]Fiammetta[/name] Oleksandra Ostara does have a certain something. And it would honor a family member.

Metami: Oxanna is pretty cute!

You probably don’t need more options since you seem to have so many great options, but you could also get nn Foo using a mn with a double o ex. Fiametta [name]Noor[/name] = flame & light

Ooo, I love [name]Noor[/name]! I must admit I’ve been swooning over that one since I saw it on [name]Blade[/name]'s top 25. [name]Noor[/name], so mysterious, sweet, dreamy and lush. [name]Fiammetta[/name] Ostara [name]Noor[/name]?

Didn’t you once say Baby’s godfather speaks Arabic? Noor is a completely non-religious name (not Muslim, not Christian, though it’s given by both and imparted some religious significance, as any name meaning ‘light’ often is). If you ,I’ve it, it would be entirely appropriate.

Curious on your thoughts re: Ostara and previous reluctance to use the nameof a major deity?

Quite like Fiammetta Oriel Noor; or, for a double A, Fiammetta Orinda Noor. (Orinda= beautiful gold)

PS I know Fiammetta was somewhat of the dark horse, but I think it’s really perfect for you. You’ve been drawn to sweet names with diminutives (like Pareerou), which you get both in meaning (“little flame”) and with the myriad nicknames that will arise. In your very first posts you were certain you wanted something with a painterly/artistic connection, and you get that.

Yes yes! [name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Oriel[/name] [name]Noor[/name]! Or [name]Fiammetta[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Noor[/name]!
[name]Noor[/name] just slaughters me it’s so beautiful. Means light, yet it has such a dark depth. Holy Mother of God!
Lilysong and [name]Queen[/name] B - genius!
(ahem… not to sway you or anything Otter Dear…)
