About the name Rowan

I’ve never met a male [name]Rowan[/name] but 3 females. Is the name becoming more close to the girls’ side?
What do you think,guys?

I prefer it on a girl. I think it might be traditionally a boys name, but I’ve never even heard of a boy [name]Rowan[/name] but I’ve read several books and seen on TV and in Movies girl [name]Rowan[/name]'s. I’ve met girl [name]Rowan[/name]'s in real life, but never boy [name]Rowan[/name]'s. I prefer [name]Ronan[/name] or [name]Roan[/name] on a boy.

I only know one [name]Rowan[/name] and she is a little girl. I think its one of those names that could really go both ways. [name]Ive[/name] never met a boy named [name]Rowan[/name] but Im sure theyre out there.

Hmm, maybe it differs between countries (I’m in Australia), but I know several boy Rowans and zero girl Rowans. To me, it’s all boy.

ETA: I’m pretty sure it is traditionally a male name - [name]Rowan[/name] Atkinson (Mr Bean), anyone? I’d assume [name]Rowena[/name] is the female equivalent, and that seems much nicer for a girl.

it is sooo much better on a girl!!! I have never met a boy [name]Rowan[/name]…But 3 girl ones!!! I [name]LOVE[/name] this name and if I ever have another daughter her name will be [name]Rowan[/name]!!

Not sure where you’re located but in the United States, [name]Rowan[/name] is ranked #309 for boys and #535 for girls. I’m with Jeska in that I view [name]Rowan[/name] as a boys name and [name]Rowena[/name] as a girls name.

I’m naming my baby (due [name]July[/name] 9) [name]Rowan[/name] whether we have a boy or a girl! I love it for either. I have to say I do not care for [name]Rowena[/name] at all (hope I don’t offend any Rowenas!) I find [name]Rowan[/name] to be strong and beautiful, like the name of a river, and I that is the feeling I want for my child, boy or girl.

I know two male Rowans and have never met a female one. Plus [name]Rowan[/name] Atkinson makes it boy for me, though I wouldn’t hate to see it on a girl like I do some other traditionally male names.

I’ve never met a [name]Rowan[/name] in my life, never even heard of one.

I prefer [name]Rowen[/name]

I know 3 Rowans, all girls. However, if you look at name stats in my area it’s actually used far more commonly on boys (44 Rowans, 6 Rowens) than on girls (12 Rowans, 1 [name]Rowen[/name].) I personally see it best as a girls name but think it’s a great name and totally usable for either.

I only know one [name]Rowan[/name] and he is a boy about 16 years old.

We have a ten week old baby named [name]Rowan[/name]. We chose the name without knowing the sex of the baby because [name]Rowan[/name] has a long history of use by people of any gender. Our baby happens to be male, but we would have happily used it for a female baby, too.

[name]Rowena[/name] is not the feminine of [name]Rowan[/name]. [name]Rowena[/name] is Welsh, [name]Rowan[/name] is Irish and a nature name. They look similar but are derived differently.

I’ve only known of one [name]Rowan[/name], a boy. He’s 8 or 9. I am really loving the name right now, and I think I would use it for either gender. It originally seemed more feminine to me, but now I think it’s truly unisex.

I prefer it for a boy though I have to grudgingly admit this one really could work for either gender. It’s a strong name without being gender specific. This is coming from a person who REALLY, REALLY dislikes so-called “unisex” names. This is one of the very few names that can truly be called unisex.

In [name]England[/name] it’s used more for boys, in [name]Scotland[/name] it’s becoming more widely used for girls and the first syllable is usually pronounced like how rather than toe.

I prefer it on a girl, but because it also used so much on boys I won’t use it as I have a unisex or predominately male name and hate it.

I live in Australia and have only ever met male Rowans

I think I like it more for a boy.the only [name]Rowan[/name] I’ve met is a boy.
