I love [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]!
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] are an adorable sibset and I love the nickname [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f]!
I’d go with [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]–it’s prettier. And there’s no reason why she should be called [name_f]Sue[/name_f] if she doesn’t want to be. I knew a [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] who would be in her 70’s now and always hated her name.
I adore [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], so I went with [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]. [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is lovely though, and I do agree that [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] is prettier than [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] is a sassy nickname, in a good way. This is a toss up for me!
I personally prefer [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] nn [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] over [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] nn [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like you said, I’m one of those people who wouldn’t be a huge fan of [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f]. I really like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u], though. If you want to use [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] but aren’t sure about [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], what about [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] or [name_f]Henriette[/name_f]? [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is derived from [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], so it’s a legitimate full name for [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]. [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] or [name_f]Henriette[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] are very pretty as well. That’s just something for you to consider. Also, just a thought…
[name_f]Juna[/name_f]/[name_f]Junia[/name_f]/[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]? [name_f]Hope[/name_f] I helped!
Also, about both names…I feel worried that I am too obsessed with avoiding trendy names and so am only considering names that aren’t really cute. Before I got into researching the popularity of names (before my first daughter was born) I had a list that I LOVED including [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]…and I would have been thrilled to use any of those names. But once I researched I realized I didn’t want to seem trendy and we live in a very name trendy area - lots of babies with all of those names around here. I have a pretty common name and always wished I had something more unique…do other people feel the same way?
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is beautiful and I love the nn zuzu it’s got spunk.
Thank you for the replies. Our good friends have a son named [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and i don’t think [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] is any prettier than [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] though I have definitely considered it. [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] is adorable but sounds like the name of a housing development or retirement community with our last name. We also crossed off [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] for this same reason.
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f] by a mile! [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] is great, and once your kids start going to school you’ll realize that there are very few names that come across as truly outlandish anymore. There are so many kids with so many unique names that [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] will be fine and most people will probably already be familiar with it (or love it!). Also, nns like [name_f]Sue[/name_f] are not necessarily intuitive to little kids…if you introduce her as [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] or [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f], I bet you that is what she will get called! (And fwiw, [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] is adorable, but we know so many people with dogs or cats named this. Not a deal-breaker, just something to be aware of!)
I voted for [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] needs a few more years to feel cool again.
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is gorgeous, [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] is amazing and the sibset is perfection!
I feel I SHOULD love [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], but I just can’t for some reason. I really don’t care for [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] either, but [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]. I would definitely use [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] as a full name myself. I think [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a real beauty. If you are completely opposed to using [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] on her own, I would suggest you opt for [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. The fact you don’t find [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] pretty is troublesome, I would never name my daughter something I didn’t find beautiful.
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] is great but it doesn’t seem like a good idea to go into something loving the nickname and not being all the way in love with the full name ([name_f]Harriet[/name_f]).
[name_u]Love[/name_u] (and voted for) [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] although I like [name_f]Suzanna[/name_f] a bit more.
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f]) is lovely! Much nicer than [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and especially if you’re unsure that you even like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]. If you are still unsure, I would seriously consider [name_f]Junia[/name_f] Goods, nn [name_f]Junie[/name_f] __oods. I think it sounds nice as well.
My vote went to [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u], but now that I read that you find it less pretty I want to change my vote! Personally I think that [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] has more character than [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], I think it pairs well with [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] (which is a name that, to me, has more quirky character than princess-prettiness) and I find the name strong rather than pretty, which is a good thing to me! But if you feel uncertain about [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] I think that [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] might be the better choice!
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f] violet. My name is [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and no one has ever called me [name_f]Susie[/name_f] because my parents gave me the nickname [name_f]Zanna[/name_f]. I get compliments on my name [name_f]EVERY[/name_f] time I introduce myself. It’s such a confidence booster for a child and have a hard time picking name for kids because it’s one of a kind and I know how that developed me as a person! Good luck!
Where do you live? I am just wondering if we would get the same reaction. We are in [name_u]California[/name_u]. It’s great to hear that you love your name!
I guess I don’t find [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] to be a particularly pretty name either, much like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], but we used it anyway and I love it. It is spunky, unique, fun, strong and somewhat familiar to most people. I think the same can be said for [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]. Quirky, strong and unique…qualities I value over prettiness! When I think about it that way, I don’t think it’s bad to use a name for my daughter that I wouldnt really call pretty.
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] has such a beautiful sunny sound to it. I love it.
I like [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]! I am not a fan of [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f], but nicknames aren’t really set in stone- not everyone would have to call her that. If you introduce her as [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], over time friends and family will develop their own nicknames! [name_f]Susie[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], or [name_f]Annie[/name_f] would also be easy to get from [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]! You and your family can call her [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f], and if you do, the people who like it will call her that too, and people who don’t probably just won’t call her that!
I wouldn’t decide for or against a name based only on the nickname situation. Unless you’re planning to call the child exclusively by a nickname (and tell everyone else to do the same), nicknames are never set in stone! Also, there’s always the possibility that your daughter will get older and decide she doesn’t like her name at all and go by her middle name or a different nickname (Several of my friends have done this, despite having great names!)
We are thinking of naming our daughter [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]! I love it but reeeally dont like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] so I voted for susannah!
