Abree? Why hate? Confused

I think pretty much any name that ends with ee looks dumb.

I’m from [name_f]Canada[/name_f].

It sounds trendy and made-up.

I’m in the US.

I just don’t really think the [name_m]Ab[/name_m]- part flows into the -ree part very well. I prefer [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], because it just flows better.

I’m in the US

The pronunciation in general is just eh. [name_m]Ab[/name_m]-ree does not sound as good as [name_m]Abe[/name_m]-ree in my opinion. And It is too close to [name_u]Avery[/name_u]

I guess it is a matter of personal taste and style - to me it comes across as insubstantial and made-up; but some people would hate the names I like. If you like it, then use it.

Meh, I really don’t think [name_f]Abree[/name_f]/Abbree needs a nickname. [name_u]Abby[/name_u] is only 1 or 2 letters shorter and is still 2 syllables. For me, it’s like using [name_f]Cara[/name_f] nn [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] or [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] nn [name_u]Adley[/name_u]. It just doesn’t change much. I also think that this would be a rare instance where the nickname is more professional-sounding than the full name which defeats the purpose of the nickname, imo. As an [name_u]Abby[/name_u] whose parents only named her [name_f]Abigael[/name_f] so she would have a professional full name, if it were Abbree instead I would probably just use [name_u]Abby[/name_u] even professionally (at this point I plan on using [name_f]Abigael[/name_f] officially but going by [name_u]Abby[/name_u] socially).

Sorry, this doesn’t have much to do with the initial thread, just had to respond to this.

Well… for me, there is something missing in [name_f]Abree[/name_f]. Seems more like a nn.
I didn’t like or dislike it, it just seems that the name isn’t… complete?

I’m not saying this in an argumentative way (just clarifying that because it’s hard to tell sometimes online lol) but when I said you could get the nickname [name_u]Abby[/name_u] I didn’t really mean it in that you could name your child [name_f]Abree[/name_f] solely to call them [name_u]Abby[/name_u] - just that I thought [name_f]Abree[/name_f] was a cuter alternative to [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] which I don’t really like however I do like the “[name_m]Ab[/name_m]” beginning of the name and the nickname [name_u]Abby[/name_u]. However I’m not really one of those people who plan nicknames in advance - I feel like they should happen more naturally. Tbh people with short names still get nicknames out of affection or whatever without syllable counting if it’s appropriate given the length of the name. Plus there are so many unusual names about these days I really don’t think [name_f]Abree[/name_f] could be the most horrendous name to use professionally. All the hate towards this name is actually making me like it more and more as I feel defensive over it now I think it’s so sweet. I think I’d spell it Abbrie now. At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference and I can see why this name could be off putting to people. I think my name style is all over the place and I’m sometimes surprised by names I do like such as this one haha. I’m normally into more traditional or flowery type names for girls.

I think I commented on your other post regarding this name.

I’m not a fan of it.

It sounds like it should be [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], it doesn’t sound “name-like” to me, it doesn’t flow (sounds like uh-bree). Could be a nn if you just love it. [name_m]Just[/name_m] doesn’t seem very nice when there are so many lovely options out there!

I don’t mind “made up” names - all names were made up at some point, but I don’t like the same letter twice in a row in names, especially at the end. It makes it look like a nickname rather than a proper name.

Like if a girl was called, I don’t know, Abrina, her friends or her little brother might call her [name_f]Abree[/name_f] as a nickname.

I’m not a fan of it because it could be (and will be) pronounced in many different ways. I pronounced it AY-bree until you clarified how you pronounced it. Also, it looks like a misspelling of [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]/[name_f]Aubree[/name_f]. I think the child would be annoyed having to spell and/or correct the pronunciation of their name their whole life.
