Hello! I’m hoping to gather some ideas for abstract nouns that have beautiful sounds and could be appropriate as middle names. Our son’s middle name is [name_u]Meridian[/name_u], and we all really love it. I’m hoping to find something as beautiful-sounding, that’s also an abstract noun, and preferably one that’s not used regularly in casual conversation. (We love [name_u]Theory[/name_u], but are hesitant since it’s a much more common word.) Other ideas on our list that we’re just not in love with, but to give you a sense of what we’ve been thinking: [name_u]Solstice[/name_u], [name_u]Zenith[/name_u], [name_f]Sojourner[/name_f], Prism… I’d really appreciate some new ideas!!
[name_f]My[/name_f] due date is creeping up, and we are taking too long to narrow down our first name choices (still have 12 on the list!). I’m nervous about how far behind we are, especially since we don’t yet have a strong pool of middle name options that measures up to how much we love our first child’s middle. So I very much appreciate your suggestions!! Thank you!
I absolutely adore this style. [name_u]Zenith[/name_u] is actually a strong contender on my own list! Looking at some others on my list, what do you think of
I was just telling my husband how beautiful the word lozenge is and how if we didn’t know it meant cough drop, it would make a lovely name. (Not recommending it, just sayin’).
Love this so much. I also crush on abstract nouns as middles. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites of yours are [name_u]Meridian[/name_u], [name_u]Theory[/name_u], and [name_u]Zenith[/name_u].

I’ve added several new abstract ones to our middle name possibilities list, from going through these comments: Equinox (very cool but maybe a bit edgy for us), Azimuth, [name_u]Lumen[/name_u], [name_u]Vesper[/name_u], Riverine, [name_u]Caldera[/name_u] (my toddler would loooove this choice), [name_m]Esker[/name_m], [name_f]Parabola[/name_f] (maybe a bit silly, but so beautiful sounding), [name_f]Reverie[/name_f], [name_f]Amity[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f].
A few of the concrete nouns mentioned are ones that we had as possible first names in our giant spreadsheet of names! Might still get considered for a middle if we can’t find an abstract noun that feels right.
Thanks again!!!
We’re definitely open to verbs or adjectives too, if they feel right (whatever that means). Naming a human is rough!!
These names are about the coolest that I’ve come across so far. I love word names more than I love proper names. I’m currently looking for a middle name that will fit nicely between the names [name_u]Jadis[/name_u] & De Laurentiis, but It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack for some reason.
I chose [name_u]Louise[/name_u] first (my late Grandmother’s middle name), then [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] (my late mother’s first name.)
The most current name is [name_u]Halcyon[/name_u] (which I just saw right here), but I’m looking for a name that “feels” just right, like a hand in a glove.
I’m hoping that my search will end here. I’m getting tired🥱
