[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries!
I have a bit of a name conundrum I’m hoping you can help me with—I went to high school with an [name_f]Adela[/name_f] and always thought her name was really pretty, and suited her so well! When I was really starting to learn more about names, though, I always preferred other [name_f]Adele[/name_f] variants (including [name_f]Adele[/name_f] herself!) because the [name_f]Adela[/name_f] I knew pronounced her name ADD-eh-lah and literally everywhere else I was hearing ah-DELL-ah. Which is nice, but I find ADD-eh-lah so light and melodic.
I’d pretty much given up on her but this week, I started The Passage to [name_f]India[/name_f] on audiobook and am fascinated by the fact that the narrator is using this same pronunciation of [name_f]Adela[/name_f] I’ve loved so long whenever he says [name_f]Adela[/name_f] Quested’s name! Does anyone know if this is an accepted alternate pronunciation? [name_u]Or[/name_u] anyone know where this pronunciation comes from? I’d always sort of wondered if it was a Brazilian or Portuguese pronunciation since the [name_f]Adela[/name_f] I knew was originally from São [name_m]Paulo[/name_m], but never found out for sure. And tbh, [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is now one of my absolute favorite names of all time, so I don’t know that I’d go for [name_f]Adela[/name_f] over [name_f]Adele[/name_f] or [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] anytime soon… I’m just very intrigued! Would love any information anyone has on any pronunciations for [name_f]Adela[/name_f] outside of the common ah-DELL-ah.
Thanks, berries!
