Adele or Adela?

hi berries,

[name]Just[/name] wanted to see which one you liked best and why.

Loooove [name]Adela[/name] ( our future front runner) but does it come across as made up sounding in the real world? I think it’s sweet and vintage sounding personally. What image do you get? Does this name sound very exotic or can work for anyone? [name]Even[/name] blond/red hair blue/green eyes?

[name]Adele[/name] is sweet and French but very tied to the singer. She’s great though so not such a bad thing in my eyes…still, wouldn’t be naming after her.

Nn’s I like are [name]Ada[/name] and [name]Della[/name]…thoughts?

Thanks ladies! x

I absolutely [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Adele[/name], if it wasn’t for the singer it would be top of my list!

I do like the singer, I just don’t want it to seem as though shes the name sake… :frowning:

[name]Adela[/name] is also very beautiful!

[name]Adela[/name] doesn’t sound made up at all - it’s a very common Spanish variation of [name]Adele[/name]. I’ve never known an [name]Adela[/name] without some type of Spanish or Latin ancestry, but I wouldn’t be shocked to meet a little blonde [name]Adela[/name] - in this day and age, naming (and family itself) is more and more multicultural.

You should use what you love, and [name]Adela[/name] is a great name.

I love [name]Adele[/name]!

I prefer [name]Adele[/name]. [name]Adela[/name] just seems off sounding.

I love them both, but I think I like [name]Adela[/name] slightly more. I think it works for people with any coloring. It is used in other countries besides Spanish speaking countries. For example, it is a popular name in the Czech Republic. It is not made up and does not sound like it is. There is a St. [name]Adela[/name] and she was also a daughter of [name]William[/name] the Conquerer.

I like the singer. i know her name is probably becoming more popular because of her, but if I used it I would not feel like I was naming the baby after her, as the name is very old. Actually, the first thing I think of is the little girl in [name]Jane[/name] Eyre (she was [name]Adele[/name]; the housekeeper called her [name]Adela[/name]).

[name]Adela[/name] seems clunky too me, I prefer something more along the lines of [name]Adeline[/name] for a variation of [name]Adele[/name]. That being said, I really like [name]Adele[/name]; it’s my favorite out of all the [name]Adele[/name] variations. I find that it has a strong, sweet sound to it that’s completely feminine. I honestly don’t think that the singer reference is a big deal; there’s a lot more history to [name]Adele[/name] than just the singer. Since it is an older name, I think it runs along the same vein as the classics- they works for everyone. I love the nickname [name]Ada[/name], I think it shares [name]Adele[/name]'s vintage charm and spunk.

I like both, though I prefer [name]Adele[/name] slightly more. [name]Adelaide[/name] is my favorite variation, however.

Thanks all! Yeah [name]Adelaide[/name] is also my fav just know she would get nicknamed [name]Addie[/name] :/. [name]Adele[/name] nn [name]Ada[/name] is my favorite I think. [name]Adela[/name] does feel a bit clunky to me, although still very pretty.

But ultimately, too close to the singer for me…sigh

I prefer [name]Adela[/name]. [name]Love[/name] nn [name]Della[/name].

I love [name]Adela[/name]…[name]Adele[/name] is beautiful, too, but I instantly think of the singer. Not a bad association, but would want to get away from that if it were me.

I love both but prefer [name]Adele[/name].

I adore [name]Adele[/name]! So much more than [name]Adela[/name]. I do know an [name]Adela[/name] (well, spelled [name]Adella[/name])–she’s from [name]Brazil[/name] and is actually quite stunning… not really blond-haired/blue-eyed, but I could still see someone named [name]Adela[/name] with those features. I do like the simplicity of [name]Adele[/name], though, and I don’t think it’ll really be tied to the singer that strongly. [name]Ada[/name] is nice, but I like [name]Addy[/name] as a nn more.

Good luck!

I like both. I prefer [name]Adela[/name] b/c of the singer association of [name]Adele[/name]. Not that she’s bad but everyone will think that is where you got it. My fav [name]Adele[/name] name though is [name]Adelia[/name], I think it flows better that [name]Adela[/name].

I honestly like both - I’m pretty sure it was the very first name I fell in love with (when I read [name]Jane[/name] Eyre). I’d say it depends on your middle and last name - [name]Adele[/name] comes off as very fresh and spunky (not particularly tied to the singer for me), while [name]Adela[/name] is sweet and prim and a tad bit shy.

Aw thanks ladies! I really do love the name [name]Adela[/name]. She would be named after sweet [name]Adele[/name] from [name]Jane[/name] eyre. Who gets called [name]Adela[/name] as a nn. Dislike [name]Addie[/name] but [name]Ada[/name] or [name]Della[/name] would work very nicely. I might use both as I love them both equally. No harm in that ;). I’m glad to see that this name can work on any type of girl. I absolutely adore it. I like [name]Adele[/name] as a nn if she likes, I don’t mind that one bit. But yea, as a full name, I think the ties to the singer are strong. But [name]Adela[/name] fixes all that for me even though the ties are still there. I’m fine with it

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Adela[/name]! Cute, funky and fresher than [name]Adeline[/name] or [name]Adelaide[/name]. I knew an [name]Adella[/name] in high school, but I prefer just one L since I live in [name]Texas[/name] and the Spanish pronunciation for [name]Adella[/name] is different.

I like [name]Adele[/name] best but I understand what you’re saying about the name being tied to the singer. [name]Adela[/name] is nice too, though.
Best wishes!
