My last post was a poll between [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]. [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] narrowly won out as the best sister name for baby #3 to our daughters: [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]. I do love [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and she very well could be “the” name, but I still don’t feel like it is yet. A few comments from my last post got me thinking about the style of our daughter’s names, while very different in origin, some said they feel grounded and more down to earth, while names like [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] are too fussy. So I love that idea of down to earth, grounded names to go with our girls. So I complied a list of names that I feel encompass that grounded but still beautiful, spunkiness that I think our girls’ names include. Any that you think pair particularly well with our daughters or any more similar suggestions to this style that I’m seeking? Thanks so much!
I love [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] (though I voted for [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]!)! You have such great taste and your daughters names are beautiful. All of these names are definitely beautiful, spunky and grounded. The one that sticks out to me is [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] - it is a little frilly (being a flower and all) but still gets you that pretty, down-to-earth nickname like your girls have. [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] are so sweet together! I also voted for [name_f]May[/name_f] as the middle name; I just don’t think you can pass it up with its great meaning to you. [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] (and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]) is a bit much for some people, but I think it’s cute
@meyera4 - Thanks so much for this comment! I do think [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] “[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]” would be so sweet and fabulous with our girls! Not so sure I could get DH on board but it’s a great option. Also, I know I have to use [name_f]May[/name_f], could I use it in the first name spot and balance it out with a longer middle. Or is [name_f]May[/name_f] just not first name material? I think it is a beautiful name either way. Thanks again for your comment!
First of all, can I just say that your daughters names are gorgeous! As for their little sister:
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] & [name_f]Finola[/name_f] is probably my favourite of your list ([name_f]Finola[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is sweet). I also quite like [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] with your girls. Other ideas:
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] - One of my favorites, so I’m biased same number of syllables, same down to earth feeling. Great nn potential with [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is similar and would also work.
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] - seems a bit plain compared to your other choices (though not out of place)
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] - Not bad. I personally don’t like this name very much, but I do think it fits rather well. [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] - This captures the whimsical bit of [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] while combining the history vibe of [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - another of my favorites Ditto [name_f]Coralie[/name_f].
[name_f]Finola[/name_f] - prn finn-oo-la or finn-oh-la? If finn-oh-la, I believe the traditional pronunciation is finn-oo-la, which sounds a bit odd next to [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] - I feel like you have better options, though this is a perfectly lovely name. Maybe a bit too old lady for me.
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] - this sounds more like a cowgirl than your other girls do
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f] - I live in the US; those waffles are delicious! [name_u]June[/name_u] - I feel like this shouldn’t logically fit, but it does. If you’re looking for something without a nickname and a little less clunky, this would be a great option
[name_f]Lilian[/name_f] - a little too common compared to her sisters, plus “[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], and [name_f]Lilian[/name_f]” is rather l-heavy.
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] - I associate this with [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] Ball and a prissy [name_f]Junie[/name_f] B. [name_m]Jones[/name_m] character. Not a fan. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] - down-to-earth feel without being a cowgirl; pretty without being frilly; and historical-sounding [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] - as pp have said, matches wonderfully, the right amount of syllables, with great nn options [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] - ditto [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marilla[/name_f] - sounds like a made-up name for a Disney villain (a la Cruella)
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - I feel like you have better options, but that might be because I find [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] rather ugly-sounding [name_f]Olive[/name_f] - ditto [name_u]June[/name_u]. It shouldn’t work, but it does.
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] - Seems a bit random compared to the others and solidly old lady
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] - not bad, but I feel like [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] hit the nail on the head for short names
I’d suggest going with a 3-syllable name to go with your other DDs. My favorites from your list with with [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] are: [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Finola[/name_f], [name_f]Marilla[/name_f], and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
Thanks to everyone for their comments and suggestions! @jame1881 - I especially liked your breakdown of each name, you’re right [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] don’t seem like they would work but do! My husband likes [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] the most so far, which many of you liked as well. We will add it to our list. Thanks again everyone!
