Adeline without Addie?

Hello,

I love the name [name]Adeline[/name], and have done for some time. It sounds good with my surname, and honours both my Mother and Grandmother. BUT I don’t want to use the nickname [name]Addie[/name]! Would I be stupid to use [name]Adeline[/name] thinking I could avoid [name]Addie[/name]? It is the most common, obvious and intuitive nickname! I don’t hate [name]Addie[/name] per se, but with the number of [name]Addison[/name]'s, [name]Madison[/name]'s and [name]Madeline[/name]'s out there I find it a bit too popular. I do love the nicknames [name]Ada[/name] and Dela.

So, should I give up on [name]Adeline[/name]?

Thank you!

No, you can call her [name]Ada[/name], [name]Leena[/name], [name]Della[/name], [name]Delly[/name], whatever you want! Everyone else will take their cues for what to call her from you  and by the time she gets to school she can correct anyone who says ‘[name]Addie[/name]’.

Of course, she can just be [name]Adeline[/name]
I know a couple who were asked by nurses, “So what are you going to call your daughter?” They replied, “[name]Theresa[/name].” The nurses persisted, “But what are you going to call her by, you know, everyday? Like a nickname?” They still replied, “[name]Theresa[/name].” She was [name]Theresa[/name] up until her sister gave her the nickname of Teesa at the age of ten or so. Most people still call her [name]Theresa[/name].
