Adira

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are expecting again! While we don’t know the gender yet, we are already thinking about names (it took us the entire 9 months to come up with our first child’s name). We have a daughter named [name_f]Keturah[/name_f].

We are both liking the name [name_f]Adira[/name_f] for a girl currently. We like how it sounds paired with [name_f]Keturah[/name_f]. What are your first impressions? [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce it? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know any one named [name_f]Adira[/name_f]? Any middle name suggestions?

Thank you Berries!

I like [name_f]Adira[/name_f] OK, it’s not my style personally but there’s nothing wrong with it. I’d pronounce it ah-DEER-uh. I think I don’t love the “dear” sound in it? But it reminds me of a name I’ve loved from afar for years - [name_u]Adria[/name_u], like [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] without the “N”. [name_u]Adria[/name_u] to me is really dynamic and versatile (and also sounds good with [name_f]Keturah[/name_f] IMO).

Thanks for responding! You actually bring up a point that we hadn’t considered yet…my sister-in-law is named [name_f]Adrienna[/name_f] (goes by Adri). She lives close by and we see her fairly often. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that [name_f]Adira[/name_f] and Adri are too similar?

I don’t think [name_f]Adira[/name_f] is necessarily too close to Adri, especially if I’m right about the ah-DEER-uh pronunciation. I assume Adri is like AY-dree, and if so, the syllables that are stressed are quite different and I don’t imagine it getting too confusing. [name_f]Adira[/name_f] could also be interpreted as somewhat of an honour name referencing [name_f]Adrienna[/name_f], if you’re into that.
([name_f]My[/name_f] suggestion of [name_u]Adria[/name_u] is for sure too close to your SIL’s name, though, so strike that!)

Congratulations!

I think [name_f]Adira[/name_f] (pronounced ah DEER ah) is a beautiful Hebrew name. It’s strong and I actually like that it contains ‘dear’ I think that’s sweet and endearing. [name_f]Adira[/name_f] has the lovely meaning strong which is something that I would aspire for my daughter to be. I think [name_f]Adira[/name_f] also sounds lovely with [name_f]Keturah[/name_f] great sister names.

Ooh [name_f]Adira[/name_f] and [name_f]Keturah[/name_f] go really well together.

I’d pronounce [name_f]Adira[/name_f] as uh-deer-uh

Adira [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Adira[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]

[name_f]Adira[/name_f] [name_f]Juno[/name_f]

[name_f]Adira[/name_f] [name_u]Willow[/name_u]
[name_f]Adira[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]
[name_f]Adira[/name_f] [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_f]Adira[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Adira[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Adira[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f]

[name_f]Adira[/name_f] is beautiful and goes perfectly with [name_f]Keturah[/name_f]!

Adira & [name_f]Keturah[/name_f] sounds great together! I think [name_f]Adira[/name_f]’s such a beautiful, underrated name with a fantastic meaning. I say A-DEER-uh, which is pretty intuitive in my opinion. I don’t think Adri is too similar, so I would go for it!

Adira sounds like a beautiful name, even though my first thought was a [name_f]Madeira[/name_f] cake… Ha ha. I love names with the era sound in them as they embody a great deal of feminine grace!

Beautiful name. I also love [name_f]Adora[/name_f]. I do think, however, it is way to close to your family member’s name and also takes away the possibility of using that same nn. I also don’t love how both sibling names end in a vowel + ra. I think you should go with something that has a different ending if that makes sense.

I noticed [name_f]Keturah[/name_f] is a Hebrew name. If you like these, consider:
[name_f]Amalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Davina[/name_f]
[name_f]Shoshana[/name_f]

Adira has many beautiful qualities. It’s unusual and attractive, but the spelling and sound makes it easy to pronounce and spell. It makes a lot of sense with [name_f]Keturah[/name_f], and to keep things even I would unearth another unusual Hebrew beauty for her twin.
