Adora?

We are expecting our second child, a girl, in a few months and we currently have a long short list! A lot of them involve the sounds ‘dora’ or ‘ad’ in some way and now my partner has suggested combining the two and calling her [name_f]Adora[/name_f].

It is an actual name, not something we just made up, I like the sound, I like how it looks written down. I love every potential shortening I can think of - [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Dora[/name_f], [name_f]Dorry[/name_f], [name_f]Dorie[/name_f] but it seems maybe a little cheesy. A bit ‘We adore her so we called her [name_f]Adora[/name_f], isn’t she adorable?’, perhaps a tad self indulgent?

What would be your immediate thought if you were told about a baby called [name_f]Adora[/name_f]?

My immediate thought would be: “Wow! What an awesome name!”, because I have it on my (very long) favourites list, and really like it. I also find myself drawn to -dora names (I like the possibility of [name_f]Aura[/name_f] as a nn), so it’s one of the many I have on there. I didn’t even notice the ‘adore her’ thing for a while, and I actually think it’s kind of cute, especially with the meaning, which is another reason I love it. I’m probably very biased since I already love [name_f]Adora[/name_f], but I’d say go for it, and I’d be delighted to meet a little [name_f]Adora[/name_f].

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it! It’s so cute but not in a “cutesy” way that won’t age. I don’t think it’s cheesy or self-indulgent, either.

I think it’s pretty. My favorite combo is [name_f]Adora[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f].

My inmediate thought it’s the [name_m]Sharp[/name_m] Objects’s character…

I love it. I wouldn’t think anything negative at all. Though, personally, I like [name_f]Adara[/name_f] a tiny bit more.

I love it! I’ve always thought of it being seen more as ‘adorable’ and not ‘adore her’, but either way I think someone would have to be trying to get something like that out of it, because it’s really just a very pretty name and I think people will see that first. If you really love ad- and -dora names, than [name_f]Adora[/name_f] would be a great choice!

I do think it’s very cheesy, sorry, but I can see why you like it. I prefer [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] or [name_f]Eudora[/name_f].

I love it. It reminds me of love, I think it is a very sweet feminine name.
