I just found this name in a children’s book, “Bound for Oregon,” by [name]Jean[/name] [name]Van[/name] Leeuwen, based on the true story of the journey of [name]Mary[/name] [name]Ellen[/name] [name]Todd[/name] and her family from Arkansas to Oregon. [name]Mary[/name] [name]Ellen[/name]'s daughter, Adrietta, later recorded and published her mother’s memories of the trip in “On to Oregon! A [name]True[/name] [name]Story[/name] of a [name]Young[/name] Girl’s [name]Journey[/name] Into the [name]West[/name].”
Adrietta appears to me to be a variation on [name]Adrian[/name]/[name]Adrienne[/name], with the -enne ending replaced with -etta, another feminine ending. [name]Do[/name] others think the same? Has anyone else heard this name? I thought it was pretty, and with the recent interest in [name]Harriet[/name], Arrietty, [name]Henrietta[/name], etc., Adrietta would probably be usable.
I actually really like that! It’s fun to say aloud and looks really pretty written out. I’m really surprised it’s not a more well-known name; I’ve never heard it before, but it seems like it should be more familiar. It could really grow on me and could possibly make my list of favorites. Thanks for sharing.
[name]Arietta[/name]'s beautiful, too, ninanoo, though I don’t think I can quite get on board with Nameberry’s explanation of [name]Arietta[/name] being a variation of [name]Arlette[/name] being a variation of [name]Charlotte[/name]. No, it looks like another spin off [name]Harriet[/name] to me…
