I found this word in an Anglo-Saxon dictionary, ælf-scīene (elf beauty), I think it would have been pronounced elf-SHEE-neh. How would you render this in modern [name_f]English[/name_f]? Elfshina? But I don’t like the look of it that way. I think it would make a beautiful name. Thoughts?

Oooh! Agree it would be elf-SHEE-neh. Maybe… Elfshena? Elfshina reads elf-SHINE-eh to me. It’s definitely hard to turn into modern [name_f]English[/name_f] without losing some of the mystical appeal. Probably a case of making it a middle name with lots of personality, in the original spelling, rather than watering it down for the first name, imho!

I would just make it Aelshina or Aelfshina

It’s beautiful and I like the meaning… it reminds me of Ælfwynn.
It does seem like middle name territory in real life however.

ooh, intriguing [name_f][/name_f]- could totally see it in a novel
[name_f][/name_f] Aelfshina maybe? or Elfshena?
Apparently Ælfflæd / Elfeda could have the same meaning?
