What do you think of this name, pronounced “[name_f]AIR[/name_f]-in”? It’s the name of Estée Lauder’s granddaughter. Pretty, or contrived?
I prefer [name_f]Erin[/name_f].
Any more thoughts?
I like [name_f]Erin[/name_f] too but it’s pretty popular and pronounced differently here in the UK. I also think they have quite different feels - [name_f]Erin[/name_f] is sweet and solid, while [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] feels more delicate and ethereal to me. [name_m]Just[/name_m] can’t decide if it feels a bit too manufactured? I’m not sure where the name comes from and whether Lauder’s parents simply made it up!
I actually really like it. I also love [name_f]Erin[/name_f], but [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] has such a cool, modern feel to me. (As an American, it’s worth mentioning that in my Mid-Atlantic east coast dialect the names sound almost identical.) I agree that it feels a bit “manufactured” and might need a strong personality to pull off, but I think it’s an intriguing name that has merit.
As an aside, I love the same sounding name for a boy, but never liked the [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] spelling (the double “a” freaks me out). I’ve started really liking [name_u]Aeron[/name_u] for a boy, because it makes more grammatical sense to me anyway, but I have similar hesitations. Regardless, [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] for a girl is pretty and although it’s unconventional, I think it could definitely work.
I would also pronounce [name_f]Erin[/name_f] and [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] the same, so for me it simply comes down to visual aesthetic. I am personally not a fan of the name [name_f]Erin[/name_f], but am slightly more attracted to [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] because it does have a mythical, otherworldly kind of quality to it. My hesitation is that it reminds me a lot of [name_f]Aerith[/name_f], the Final [name_f]Fantasy[/name_f] character, and thus does feel a bit manufactured to me. I don’t play the games nor am I a heavy gamer, but my best friend is, so you know…osmosis, I guess. lol She’s not a bad character to potentially be associated with and I don’t know that a ton of people would think of that anyway. [name_m]Just[/name_m] what pops into my head.
I like it. In my accent (UK) [name_f]Erin[/name_f] and [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] are slightly different, so it does serve a phonetic purpose as a spelling. Though technically similar, [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] and [name_f]Erin[/name_f] feel like drastically different names. As mentioned, [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] is sort of otherworldly, which I like.
I honestly thought [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] was made up or creative spelling until now. But I’ve only met one when I had a little side job in high school and she was a bit trashy.
I prefer [name_f]Erin[/name_f], but I think they’re pronounced slightly different? Being a speech-pathologist, the Ae vowels next to each other doesn’t really make sense to me (honestly same for [name_m]Aaron[/name_m]).
As an [name_f]Eryn[/name_f], [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] is the same name just another spelling. I’m meh on it.
Makes me think of Farscape (Aeryn)
I quite like it, though I prefer to spell it as Aeryn (which used to be on my list when I was younger). S/O and I have been considering adding Aeryn to our list for a girl, actually.
I actually like it, though I agree that it’ll be forever confused with [name_f]Erin[/name_f].
I like the Aeryn spelling best if I’m honest. That feels more Gaelic in look while [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] looks like a funny spelling of either [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] or [name_f]Erin[/name_f]. As a fellow UK based [name_u]Berry[/name_u] I do completely understand that [name_f]Erin[/name_f], [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] and [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] do sound quite different (at least in my accent). I think Aeryn is quite ethereal and sweet, though I do also like the name [name_f]Erin[/name_f].
[name_f]Aerin[/name_f] is the name of a fantastic character in a book by [name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_u]McKinley[/name_u], called The [name_u]Hero[/name_u] and the Crown. I’ve liked the name since I read that book as a teen.
What about [name_u]Arden[/name_u]? Similar sound but new, fresh and classy!
It’s kind of aesthetically pleasing, but it’s okay for a character in a fantasy story, but I think it and any of its spelling variations could be annoying for someone having to correct people on spelling or pronunciation. I’d stick with [name_f]Erin[/name_f].
I love it! It makes me think of the beautiful and dreamy fragrances by [name_f]Aerin[/name_f] Lauder!
I like [name_f]Erin[/name_f] but I think this spelling is wonderful and chic.
I have a teenage cousin named [name_f]Aerin[/name_f]. I think it’s a dumb trendy spelling, but I don’t really like [name_f]Erin[/name_f] either, due to overuse.
I think it’s lovely. Like others have said, it has an ethereal quality and feels quite chic.
