I really love the name [name_f]Afton[/name_f] and have had it on my list as a girls name for quite some time as [name_f]Afton[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] or [name_f]Afton[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. But since we are only planning on having once more, [name_f]Ive[/name_f] been toying with the idea of moving it to the boys side if our last baby ends up a boy. Maybe something like [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_f]Afton[/name_f]?
What do you think, is [name_f]Afton[/name_f] more boy or girl to you? I know it can work on either but Id like to get peoples first impression.

Growing up there was a little boy named [name_f]Afton[/name_f] that went to my school. I think it fit his personality very well too. I suppose [name_f]Afton[/name_f] could work just as well on a girl (and is probably more common of a name for a girl) but I’ve only met one [name_f]Afton[/name_f] in my life and he was very much a stereotypical athletic boy.

I would have assumed boy - like [name_m]Aston[/name_m], [name_m]Austin[/name_m], and other similar names - but see it works for both. Some smart@## Aussie might want [name_m]Arvo[/name_m] as a nickname - but that’s no deterrent! I like it in first spot for a boy too - [name_f]Afton[/name_f] [name_m]Louis[/name_m]!

At first sight & hear I would already be assuming it’s a boy if I’m honest, with names like [name_m]Aston[/name_m], [name_m]Austin[/name_m] (as [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] mentioned) being primarily male it just makes more sense in my head, however it does work for a girl.
Truthfully I actually prefer it on a boy & would probably use it in the FN spot regardless of gender.

I see [name_f]Afton[/name_f] as unisex - I don’t know any therefore I don’t have a strong correlation of one way or another. I really love the combo [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_f]Afton[/name_f] . Sounds regal to me !

I think with an uncommon name like Afton it can really depend on your first introduction to the name. I’m fairly certain I first came across Afton for a girl on these forums and I tend to only think of it on a girl. It reminds me of Arden and Blythe.
That said, I believe a person makes a name. Afton would be nice on a boy either as a first or middle name. Louis Afton is indeed very charming!

I honestly wouldn’t know - I might make a guess based on sibling names (ie. if sibs were [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] and [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], I might assume boy, if sibs were [name_f]Truly[/name_f] and [name_m]Sorrel[/name_m], I might assume girl?) but I think it could lean either way.

Thanks for the feed back!
It is 100% a boy’s name to me. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if I didn’t know a boy name [name_f]Afton[/name_f], I still don’t think I could see if as a girl’s name. The sound and look of it is just… not feminine at all.
