Agatha?

I’ve always had a soft spot for the name [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], but I’ve also always felt it’s a bit too old sounding for a modern baby? I LOVE the nn [name_f]Aggie[/name_f], but [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] is the only long form of the name I really like.

Other names on my newly-narrowed shortlist (of the current moment, anyways) are: [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Gracie[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_f]Emmie[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Dottie[/name_f], [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], [name_f]Susie[/name_f], [name_f]Sally[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Katy[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f]

Is [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] nn [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] too old fashioned? Are there other [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] long forms (other than [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], which I dislike) that could work instead? Or, could [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] work on its own?

Thank you!

I love [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]! Is has a gentle, witchy vibe that I love. It’s sweet, old-fashioned, and full of character; I absolutely think it’s ready for a revival! I think it fits with your other names pretty well! I definitely prefer [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] as a nickname opposed to a full name.

I think [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] would work, especially with [name_f]Aggie[/name_f].

Other [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] names:
Aglaia
[name_f]Agnella[/name_f]
Agape
Agustina or [name_f]Augustina[/name_f]
[name_f]Agnola[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] would be perfect on a child right now! I think it’s almost ready for revival.

One of my guinea pig’s name is [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]!

I feel like [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] could be ready for a comeback. It has a nice sound.

I love [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]. They both have lovely old Greek meanings and Mother [name_f]Teresa[/name_f] was a [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]. They are both on my list. I found [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] after seeing The Grand Budapest movie.

Thanks everyone! I love [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] because of Halloweentown and [name_f]Nanny[/name_f] McPhee, myself  I think I may have to hang on to it!

Agatha is really pretty! I don’t think it’s too old fashioned, especially when paired with a newer middle name.

Agatha nn [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] is clunky in a cute way

I named my rescue tortie cat [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] Before that, I had [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] on my list of favorite combos.
I don’t like [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] at all. In general I’m not a nickname person, but I think [name_f]Thea[/name_f] could work? Or just [name_f]Agatha[/name_f].

@Sophiesimmons I actually don’t like [name_f]Thea[/name_f], I’m afraid :speak_no_evil: It’s never been a name that appealed to me! I adore [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] though, so I’ll most likely use that if I do use [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] :slight_smile:

I love [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] and think it would work just fine on a modern baby. I personally have an aversion to the nickname [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] (which is why [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] has never been at the top of my list) but if you like it then I think [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] nickname [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] would be fantastic choice!

I love the name [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]! I wish I could meet one! I think [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] sounds so fresh, elegant and whimsical.
[name_f]Agnessa[/name_f] and [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] could also work as a nickname for [name_f]Aggie[/name_f].

[name_f]Agatha[/name_f] nn [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] was seen as a teenager in Halloweentown 4, so I can definitely see it working for someone younger. It’s a great name.

[name_f]Agate[/name_f] could work as well.

I really love [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] and it fits in so well with the rest of your list. [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f] would be cute!

Agatha isn’t my cup of tea, but I do think that might just be because I don’t know too many people with the name- if I were to meet a sweet baby [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] I’d probably fall in love with it! Other names I really love from your shortlist are [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!

Agatha seems less old-fashioned to me than [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]. In fact, I don’t even think of it as old-fashioned, all Agathas I know are in their teens or younger. I think [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] would be a gorgeous choice, but I’m not fond of [name_f]Aggie[/name_f].

I don’t think so, [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] reminds me of a pale yellow (synaesthesia) which I find very pretty, and tbh I’d love to meet a baby called [name_f]Agatha[/name_f].

I say that [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] was never in the top 100. It feels old-fashioned because it brings to mind [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] [name_u]Christie[/name_u] and that it was probably last popular in medieval [name_f]England[/name_f]. No, I don’t think it’s too old fashioned at all. I like it as a stand-alone but it’s also good shortened for “[name_f]Aggie[/name_f]”.
