I’m not ordinarily a fan of girls names that end with the ‘ah’ sound ([name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] et al).
A few exceptions on my list are [name_f]Elfrida[/name_f], [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], [name_f]Frederica[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Xanthia[/name_f].
I have recently come across a few rarer ‘ah’ names. What do you think of…
Artoria-I love this! I’m going to HAVE to add this to my list
[name_f]Leola[/name_f]-Meh, it’s okay I guess.
[name_f]Matia[/name_f]-I like this better than the more recognizable [name_f]Mattea[/name_f]. I think you would have less pronunciation issues too!
Tovia-Really pretty but in my opinion it sounds like it is a name from The Hunger Games.
Ulyssa- I’ve never liked Uly- names and this is no exception.
@gloriaeve - Thanks for your suggestions!! Unfortunately those names are not really my style, though [name_f]Adira[/name_f] is ok.
@featheredwings - [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you love Artoria! It’s an ancient roman family name.
Thanks for your suggestions too!
I like [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] though I wish it were pronounced [name_m]TAH[/name_m]-lee-uh.
[name_f]Evanthe[/name_f] is one of my favourite names!!! Though I pronounce it Ee-van-thee, which I believe is the correct Greek way.
[name_f]Anthea[/name_f] and [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] are not for me.
I really like [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], and [name_f]Leola[/name_f]! I actually know (or at least, have met in passing) a [name_f]Leola[/name_f]. I remember wondering if she liked her name, because I thought it was so cool, and she never seemed to want to go by [name_f]Leola[/name_f], only [name_u]Lee[/name_u]. I think [name_f]Leola[/name_f]'s pretty cool, honestly. And I find Ulyssa pretty intriguing, although I like [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] more.
What about [name_f]Petra[/name_f]? I feel like it could really suit your style, and fits in really well with [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]/Ulyssa, [name_f]Leola[/name_f], and Artoria. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Anthea[/name_f], too, and feel like it would suit your style well.
c@29 - Thanks for your suggestions!
[name_f]Petra[/name_f] is ok, though I’m not 100% convinced.
[name_f]Arcadia[/name_f] is great but it reminds me too much of Arcade.
I like [name_f]Thora[/name_f] but prefer [name_f]Thea[/name_f].
My favourite from your list is beautiful [name_f]Marina[/name_f].
lovemysweeties - Thanks for your suggestions!
Those names are a little ‘frilly’ for me, though I do love [name_f]Aria[/name_f], and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] is sweet too.
ashthedreamer - That’s cool that you’ve met a [name_f]Leola[/name_f]! If that was my name I wouldn’t like to be known solely as [name_u]Lee[/name_u]!
I’m not totally convinced by [name_f]Petra[/name_f], though it is a name that has intrigued me for years! I would love to meet a little [name_f]Petra[/name_f], but I don’t think I’d use the name myself.
dramagrl19 - Wow thanks for the long list!
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] has been on my list for a long time, though I am starting to like it less as [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is becoming more and more popular for the boys.
I have a bad personal association with a [name_f]Freya[/name_f], though I like [name_f]Freyda[/name_f].
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] is already on my list, a name I just [name_f]LOVE[/name_f]!
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] is ok, but makes me think of the teenage witch. I prefer [name_f]Sabina[/name_f].
[name_f]Brenna[/name_f] used to be my favourite name as a teenager, I am not so in love with it these days, but it’s still a very pretty name.
I don’t like names with two L’s in close succession. [name_f]Leola[/name_f] is ok as it’s broken up by two vowel sounds, but I find names like [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] etc difficult to say. [name_f]May[/name_f] just be me!
gingercat - I do enjoy a good grandma name!! [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Thora[/name_f], [name_f]Elmira[/name_f], [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Petunia[/name_f] are great. [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] is ok, but I much prefer [name_m]Isadore[/name_m] for a boy.
The girls names in my signature, [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] and [name_f]Sephora[/name_f], both fit this bill. Currently trying to decide whether or not I like the Cephora spelling better. Either way, they’re both great names. Also, how would you like [name_f]Esperanza[/name_f]/[name_f]Esperenza[/name_f]? They’re very similar to [name_f]Esmerelda[/name_f] and I go back and forth as to which I like better. [name_f]Mariposa[/name_f] is also lovely, with a great meaning.
I think maybe most ‘ah’ names just aren’t for me as I’m struggling to see the appeal of many of these (no offence intended of course!)
Of your suggestions I like:
[name_f]Nova[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] (but prefer [name_m]Isadore[/name_m] for a boy)
[name_f]Corinna[/name_f] (but I have a [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] in the family)
[name_f]Ramana[/name_f] (but prefer [name_f]Ramona[/name_f])
[name_f]Amarantha[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassia[/name_f] (pronounced [name_m]Cash[/name_m]-uh, not [name_u]Cass[/name_u]-ee-uh)
[name_f]Sephora[/name_f]
For some reason I don’t really like [name_f]Esperanza[/name_f], though I can’t put my finger on the reason why. Strange, as I adore [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f].
I like Tovia but I’ve always heard it pronounced like to-vya or tov-ya? It’s not very frilly at all… in fact I think of it as more a guy’s name. (like [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] or [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], not all -a names are girly to me… )
I adore [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f].
I like:
[name_f]Isidora[/name_f]
[name_f]Rimona[/name_f]/[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Raziela[/name_f]
[name_f]Shoshana[/name_f]
[name_f]Ketzia[/name_f]
[name_f]Viola[/name_f]
Really though I’m not much of an -ah name person. I prefer -ee or -n ending names usually.
I just assumed Tovia was pronounced [name_f]TOVE[/name_f]-ee-uh. I don’t like it as much as to-vya or tov-ya. It is a unisex name (according to at least one baby name website).
I like [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], and [name_f]Viola[/name_f] is ok too, thanks for your help.
