Is [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] a legitimate spelling or version of [name_u]Aidan[/name_u]?
As a kid, I always saw the name spelled [name_u]Aidan[/name_u]. The first time I saw it spelled [name_u]Aiden[/name_u], I thought it was either an attempt at being different or an accidental misspelling.
Now I’ve seen it spelled this way more frequently, and I’m wondering if it’s also a traditional, just not as common, spelling.
I think [name_m]Aodh[/name_m]án is the traditional Irish spelling. [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] is the only Anglicized spelling that ranks in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], so make of that what you will.
I’m not sure if it is a legit spelling but my baby cousins name is spelt [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] and I don’t think it looks incorrect.
Well, [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] ranks at #14, and [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] is at #187. I much prefer [name_u]Aidan[/name_u], as it seems to be more traditional. It also looks nicer to me. The teenagers I know with this name all spell it [name_u]Aidan[/name_u], and the younger kids spell it [name_u]Aiden[/name_u].
While I know the correct anglicized spelling is [name_u]Aidan[/name_u], I’ve always preferred the [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] spelling.
[name_u]Aiden[/name_u] is number 51 in Australia and since we only have a top 100, I’m not sure where [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] ranks, but it seems [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] is the more popular spelling.
