I’ve met one girl [name_f]Ailish[/name_f], she pronounced it “ey-lish”. If that’s how you plan to pronounce it then I think you’re good, if not then, it might be trickier. but I voted for [name_f]Alice[/name_f] since I just prefer the classic-ness of it.
I can’t understand what was so hard about [name_f]Moira[/name_f] either, it’s not that uncommon or hard.
I love [name_f]Ailis[/name_f]/[name_f]Ailish[/name_f]! I think I prefer it without the “h” but if you live in an area where there might be pronunciation issues, I’d use [name_f]Ailish[/name_f]. Still a very beautiful name, and a perfect match for [name_f]Moira[/name_f].
Nothing wrong with [name_f]Alice[/name_f] but I have to admit I do find it quite unexciting.
I prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f] over [name_f]Ailish[/name_f]. Have you considered [name_f]Alys[/name_f] (pronounced like [name_f]Alice[/name_f])?
Hmmmm - I am preferring [name_f]Alice[/name_f] too though I do love the sound of [name_f]Ailish[/name_f] (Ay -lish). That’s always the dilemma…going classic (and slightly boring) or going unique and having people do a double take when they hear the name for the first time!
[name_f]Ailish[/name_f] sounds much prettier imo, and I find [name_f]Alice[/name_f] boring
I like [name_f]Ailish[/name_f] with [name_f]Moira[/name_f].
Is [name_f]Ailis[/name_f] pronounced ay-liss? If so, I change my vote to that one. The comments so far are leading me to believe that it’s the same as [name_f]Ailish[/name_f], in which case I think [name_f]Ailis[/name_f] would just be a confusing spelling.
I don’t think you can very well have a [name_f]Moira[/name_f] and an [name_f]Alice[/name_f]! Well, of course you can, but I love the combination of [name_f]Ailis[/name_f]/h and [name_f]Moira[/name_f] much better.
[name_f]Ailish[/name_f] and [name_f]Moira[/name_f]. Perfect.
I find [name_f]Alice[/name_f] a bit boring tbh, also the repeating C sound of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] puts me off a very little.
I looove your quote Morning_glory!!!
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is one of my favorites! I really love [name_f]Ailish[/name_f], though.
I prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and I prefer the [name_f]Eilis[/name_f] spelling, as its the one most familiar to me. It isn’t pronounced like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] though.
Right - it’s “Ay-lish”. I know an [name_f]Eilis[/name_f]…I was hoping to avoid some misunderstandings with a more obvious pronunciation if we use it.
I vote for [name_f]Ailish[/name_f]! So pretty and a perfect match for [name_f]Moira[/name_f]. I do think [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is overused and therefore a little dull. I think most people would be able to get the pronouciation with the [name_f]Ailish[/name_f] spelling. If not on the first time, then the second time. I said it right in my head the first time I saw it.
Edited to add: I’d imagine (though I might be wrong) that the “oi” in Moira is what’s causing a lot of the mispronounciation. It’s not a very common sound in the middle of a word. People may expect a simpler vowel sound. All that to say, Ailish, while uncommon, does not contain any difficult or unexpected vowel sounds. Pronunciation may not be as much of an issue as you fear! Good luck!
I like [name_f]Ailis[/name_f] (Ay-lish)
If you want the pronunciation of [name_f]Alice[/name_f], I would spell it [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. I feel you’d forever be correcting people with the other spellings.
[name_f]Moira[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] are lovely. The others to me are very unattractive.

Pretty much half and half - lol. We’re back where we started (-;
I know one [name_f]Ailish[/name_f] (pronounced ay-lish). If you’re planning on pronouncing it that way then it’s a relatively straightforward name. [name_f]Ailis[/name_f] is technically the correct/traditional Irish spelling but [name_f]Ailish[/name_f] works just as well. I also love that both [name_f]Moira[/name_f] and [name_f]Ailish[/name_f] are Irish because it ties them together a little bit more than [name_f]Moira[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
Thanks (-: I should have clarified…we would say it “Ay-lish” either spelling.
