My wife and I are white americans and we are trying to decide on a name. She really likes Aina but I’m unsure about it.(pronounced “Eye-nuh”) Not a name that I’ve ever heard off and when I looked it up, it says popular name in Japan and [name]Africa[/name]. So wanted to get some people’s opinions.
The middle name is [name]Ruth[/name] so it would be Aina [name]Ruth[/name].
You’ll probably have troubles with people pronouncing it Aye-nah, or not knowing how to write it. That’s not a reason not to use it if this doesn’t bother you though.
I don’t love it, but don’t think it’s horrid either.
It has an ok sound, but the spelling isn’t appealing to me. I do like [name]Ada[/name] and [name]Isla[/name] and maybe [name]Ina[/name]?
I’ve heard of it as a Japanese name. I think it’s acceptable to use in an English-speaking country.
I’ve also heard of it as a Balearic/Catalan name (a form of [name]Anna[/name]).
Lots of misspelling and misspronouncing methinks…Would you maybe not use [name]Anna[/name] or the other variations???
I’d use the Finnish names Aino (eye- no) or [name]Aine[/name] (eye-ne).
[name]Just[/name] be prepared to constantly tell people how it’s pronounced/spelt.
My first inclination when I saw it, was that it would be pronounced “Ay-nuh”.
Ay-nuh is how I would have pronounced it too. I prefer [name]Alma[/name], which is easier to pronounce and spell.
I’d be so afraid jr. high boys would call her anus.
My father’s Greenlandic cousin is named Aina and I also have a Greenlandic friend called Aina, so I’ve always associated the name to Greenland 
I think it’s lovely, very simple yet fresh and beautiful. The two Ainas I know, both pronounce their names eye-nuh.
I thought it would be prn. Aye-nuh. I would be worried about ‘anus’ or ‘anal’ jokes.
