Aine/Anya

I came across the name [name]Aine[/name] and it’s variation, [name]Anya[/name], today. I’m really liking this name, particularly with the traditional spelling, but I know in the US [name]Aine[/name] will not be pronounced correctly. What are your thoughts on this name?

I like it! I agree though, [name]Aine[/name] would probably be often mispronounced in English. I know someone (I live in Germany btw) named [name]Anja[/name] (pronounced the same). If you like that spelling maybe it could be an easier to pronounce alternative. I have a cousin named [name]Maija[/name] ([name]Maya[/name]) who doesn’t have too many problems with people mispronouncing her name.

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Anya[/name], I love [name]Aine[/name] you too but I am also worried about pronunciation issues. Thought the [name]Aine[/name] spelling might help eradicate some of the “On-ya” teasing potential because the spellings are so close with [name]Anya[/name]. A lot of people would also assume that [name]Anya[/name] is how her name should be spelled, most people assume my name should be spelled differently as well, so I got lots of birthday cards and [name]Christmas[/name] cards with the wrong spelling. It can get very annoying but if she really loves her name it wont make that big a difference

I really really like [name]Aine[/name] ever more than [name]Anya[/name]. Yes, people may pronounce it wrong sometimes, but I’ve spent my whole life correcting people with my name and once you tell them the way its actually pronounced, they probably won’t make the same mistake. My name is Elliveve ([name]ELLA[/name]-veve) and i’ve gotten elly-vehve, el-ve-ve, and all kinds of things, but I’ve learned to love it!

if you love it!!! go for it i love [name]Aine[/name] my name is mis-pronounced all the time but when i tell people my name they are like wow i love it

it’s machion (Ma-chon)

[name]Aine[/name] is one of those names that has a very obvious Irish origin. Sometimes a name like that will seem out of place on a child/adult that doesn’t have any Irish blood. (But your son’s name is [name]Callum[/name]. That’s Scottish, right?)

That’s just my opinion. Of course all names are free for all! And [name]Aine[/name] has been one of my favorites for years. Good choice.

If you’re worried about pronunciation, spell it [name]Enya[/name]. The singer will make it click in everyone’s mind much easier, and it’s more clearly Irish. [name]Anya[/name] is used as variations of names other than [name]Aine[/name], making it derivation unclear.
