I’m nearing the end of my pregnancy with our first daughter and I’ve still been unable to commit to a name. He loves the name [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f], and while there’s nothing I definitively don’t like about it, I’m having a hard time saying yes but also don’t really have any other suggestions we haven’t already discussed. I think the “sley” sound in [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] might be throwing me off but I do truly think it’s a pretty name. The problem is I don’t have a strong feeling that any name is “the one,” but I’ll have to make a choice before much longer.
Currently her most likely name is [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but a family friend just suggested [name_m]Parker[/name_m] [name_f]Laine[/name_f] and I thought it was quite cute and not one we had discussed at all. [name_f]Laine[/name_f] is my fiancé’s mother’s middle name and I had wanted to call the baby [name_f]Delaney[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lainey[/name_f], but then he told me that [name_f]Laine[/name_f] is also his ex’s middle name (whom he has 2 kids with), and sometimes her grandparents call her [name_f]Lainey[/name_f]. That ended my Delaney/Lainey dream, but I don’t think it would bother me if they happened to share a middle name so long as it’s not a name they both get called, if that makes sense.
The boy’s names are Braidon [name_f]Reese[/name_f] and [name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m], so we don’t have a “theme” but I’d like them to all sound nice together.
If you were to choose, would you go with [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_m]Parker[/name_m] [name_f]Laine[/name_f]? Would the ex with the same middle name kill it for you if it’s also a name honoring grandma? Other suggestions are welcome, I just feel like it’s getting to be time to name this baby!
Maybe Parker Elizabeth? I prefer Parker to Ainsley and Parker Laine makes me think of “parking lane”.
Maybe you would like Aisling, said like “Ashling”? Or maybe Palmer?
I actually think that [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] [name_m]Parker[/name_m] sounds quite nice together as a first and middle name. But if you don’t like it that, I think [name_m]Parker[/name_m] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is quite pretty as well!
I think the ex thing would be a little weird for me personally but if it doesn’t bother you, I think [name_f]Laine[/name_f] is a very pretty middle name as well 🩷
Congratulations for the imminent arrival of your daughter!
Between [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] and [name_m]Parker[/name_m], my favorite name is [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f]. In my opinion it has a beautiful sound and a lovely meaning. [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a great name. However, I don’t feel that you love that choice and to me that’s essential. I also don’t know if you have a strong admiration for [name_m]Parker[/name_m]. [name_m]Parker[/name_m] [name_f]Laine[/name_f] is nice, but you both have to absolutely adore it! Perhaps you could consider [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] [name_m]Parker[/name_m] or [name_m]Parker[/name_m] [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f]?
Mixing [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] and [name_m]Parker[/name_m], you could consider [name_f]Paisley[/name_f].
[name_f]Delaney[/name_f] is a gorgeous name. It would be a wonderful idea to honor your baby’s grandmother. But if it bothers your fiancé and if it reminds him of his ex, who, as a mother of his children, is still a very important person in his life, I wouldn’t use it. What about his mother’s first name? Is it usable? Are there any other family members that you would like to honor?
What about [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] or [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Laine[/name_f]?
Similar to [name_f]Laine[/name_f], you may also like [name_f]Linnea[/name_f], [name_f]Laila[/name_f], [name_f]Lianne[/name_f], [name_f]Elaine[/name_f], [name_f]Loraine[/name_f], [name_f]Alaine[/name_f], [name_f]Melanie[/name_f], [name_f]Lana[/name_f], [name_f]Lina[/name_f], [name_f]Adaline[/name_f], [name_f]Aline[/name_f], [name_f]Milana[/name_f], [name_f]Nelia[/name_f], [name_f]Melina[/name_f], [name_f]Raine[/name_f] and [name_f]Leni[/name_f].
I like [name_m]Parker[/name_m] [name_f]Laine[/name_f] - but I’d maybe do a compromise - like [name_m]Parker[/name_m] [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] / [name_m]Parker[/name_m] [name_f]Elena[/name_f]?
[name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
The ex’s middle name might bother me a little since some people call that ex by her middle name.
But mostly I just like [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] a lot better.
[name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is great, and [name_m]Parker[/name_m] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would also be cute. The ex thing would bother me and make me want to give up [name_f]Laine[/name_f].
Having read your situation, I know can’t unsee that [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] contains all of Laine’s letters, and that would bother me if I were you (because of the connection to the ex). It is, in fact, an anagram of “Lainey’s” - something to keep in mind as it might feel a bit strange in the family for [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] to be your daughter’s name.
I do prefer [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] to [name_m]Parker[/name_m] for a girl, because [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f] feels more feminine (that might not be an issue for you, of course) but in your case, I feel like [name_m]Parker[/name_m] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would be the safer option.
Other names that might be your style if you feel like going in a different direction:
And for the middle name, if you did want to honour grandma, would her first, last or maiden (if applicable) name be an option? [name_m]Or[/name_m] another name that would connect to her?
[name_f]Aubrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] were on our “maybe” list, along with [name_f]Addison[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. I think for him [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] was “just ok” and to me I like [name_f]Ava[/name_f] but I’m a little worried it will be too popular. I don’t need a really stand-out name that’s incredibly unique but I also don’t want her to have the same name as tons of other girls in her peer group, I worry about that with [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. I also liked [name_f]Adalynn[/name_f] but I think I remember him not being keen on it. I may have to revisit that one with him though because it is quite nice.
I do like [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f], but I don’t love it and I want to love it. He loves it and I feel like if I can’t make a suggestion that I feel strongly about then I should juat agree to his name because it’s pretty, he loves it, and I can’t come up with a better option. I really liked [name_f]Lila[/name_f] but it was a no for him. He tried to compromise with [name_f]Layla[/name_f] but I just didn’t like that as much. We went through a short phase with [name_f]Addison[/name_f], but it wasn’t a name I couldn’t live without and he really preferred [name_f]Ainsley[/name_f].
