Aisling vs. Ashlyn

What are everyone’s thoughts on the spelling of [name_f]Aisling[/name_f]? I love the name, but because I live in the States, I feel that [name_f]Aisling[/name_f] would be constantly mispronounced. I often consider using a phonetic spelling, but which one? What’s your favorite?
[name_f]Aisling[/name_f]
[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f]
Ashlinn
[name_f]Ashlynn[/name_f]
[name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f]

Thanks!!!

It’s not my favourite or the most authentic Gaelic name but I see the appeal. I like [name_f]Aislin[/name_f] a lot (athough I know [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] looks more complete).

The -ling ending is a different pn… you know, on account of the letter g. In an Irish accent the g is very subtle sounding but it doesn’t mean it’s said the same as [name_f]Aislin[/name_f].

To be honest outside of the [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] or the UK I would use the [name_u]Ash[/name_u]- spelling. I know a little girl called [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and her parents pronounce her name AYS-lin, it’s truly horrific.

[name_f]Aislin[/name_f] is another good option! But, yeah- I’m concerned about that AYS pronunciation.

I agree that anglicizing would be a good choice if you live outside of [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] and the UK.

I think Ashlinn or [name_f]Ashling[/name_f] would be the nicest spellings.
Have you considered [name_f]Ashleen[/name_f] or Ashline?

[name_f]Aisling[/name_f], hands down.

Thanks for your suggestions! I’m currently leaning towards Ashlinn, bc I’m not sure if I’m crazy about the Y in [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f]- although I like that it’s a more accepted spelling.

I prefer [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] esp. if it is in the middle and you want to honor your Irish heritage. If you thoughts are that you love the sound and meaning and would want it as a first name I would choose [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f] esp. if you live in the US. It’s a beautiful name and it will almost always be spelled and pronounced correctly if you use the [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f] spelling. I love this name so I don’t think you can go wrong either way.

[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f]. You will get people who say it wrong at first but once corrected I think you’ll be fine. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is pretty straightforward and common but I still have to correct people so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. If you want the name with a more obvious pronunciation I’d go with [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f].

I definitely prefer the original spelling, but I agree pronunciation in the States will be a nightmare. We just don’t comprehend Irish names. If you decide on a phonetic spelling, I think [name_f]Ashlin[/name_f] looks the nicest. [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f] is alright, but the y adds a little trendiness to it.

I prefer [name_f]Aisling[/name_f]. If you’re to Anglicize, I like Ashlinn best.

[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] is my favorite. I know a 10 or 11 year old named [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] and her name’s always pronounced correctly.
