I know that the Irish named [name]Aisling[/name] and [name]Aislin[/name] are pronounced [name]Ashling[/name]/[name]Ashlin[/name] and [name]Ashlin[/name], at least I thought I did until I watched the movie Dragonheart today. It’s been forever since I’ve seen it and throughout the whole movie, [name]Shaun[/name] [name]Connery[/name] as the dragon was calling the queen ace-lin and I kept wondering about it.
I looked it up and in the credits, the queen is listed as [name]Queen[/name] [name]Aislinn[/name]… and [name]Shaun[/name] [name]Connery[/name] was saying it as ace-lin…
I thought the AIS was suppose to be said [name]Ash[/name]…am I wrong?
That’s what I thought the pronounciation was…perhaps they need a Gaelic expert on set 
Or her name was meant to be Anglicized for some reason.
[name]Aislinn[/name] is definitely [name]Ash[/name]-lynn, I have a niece named this. The Anglicized version would be [name]Ashling[/name], so I’m not too sure where they got [name]Ace[/name]-lynn from!
I don’t know either as I would figure [name]Shaun[/name] [name]Connery[/name] would know what he was talking about. Sigh, so there’s a mispronunciation. That makes me sad. I hate it when it’s mispronounced as ace-lin but I think [name]Ashling[/name] and Ashlinn are lovely.
[name]Sean[/name] [name]Connery[/name] can’t pronounce anything correctly.
Obviously [name]Sean[/name] [name]Connery[/name] was pronouncing [name]Aislinn[/name] phonetically, since it most definitely is supposed to be pronounced [name]ASH[/name]-lin, although I’ve heard that AYZ-lin is also correct, so maybe that’s what it was supposed to be. 
My sister-in-law (mid 20s) is [name]Aislinn[/name] pronounced aish (long A and sh sound) lyn. She goes by nickname [name]Ace[/name] as that is what most people hear when she says her name. She is from a family of Irish siblings also including [name]Seamus[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name].
In saying that, I tech a 13 year old girl [name]Aisling[/name], pronounced [name]Ash[/name]-ling. It’s taken me forever to get my head around because I have been saying [name]Aish[/name]-linn for so long.

It is “officially” pronounced, as Gaelic name, [name]Ash[/name]-lin or the like. But a family friend named her daughter [name]Aislinn[/name] and pronounces it Aiz-linn - she clearly didn’t know of its origins so just pronounced it on how it looks in English. I don’t think it’s that bad though.
I always understood [name]Aislinn[/name] to be pronounce [name]Ash[/name]-lin. Maybe its his Scottish accent that makes it sound different?
Yes perhaps his accent made it sound more like [name]Ace[/name]-lin? Or maybe there were rather more Americans involved in the movie who were pronouncing it a little differently to the norm? I’ve always known it as ash-ling/ash-linn though. I went to school with a girl called [name]Aisling[/name] and always thought it was lovely and a bit different
[name]Sean[/name] [name]Connery[/name] has a bit of a lisp, so that might be why he was pronouncing it the way he was.
I get called many names from Acelinn, [name]Aishlinn[/name], Aizlinn, Ashlinn, Ayling… etc! But if anyone asks me how to pronounce I say [name]Aish[/name]-linn or [name]Ace[/name]-linn
I would automatically pronounce it [name]Ace[/name]-linn, sorry. I understand after reading your post that the correct way to pronounce it is [name]Ash[/name]-lynn, and I’m not really sure why it isn’t pronounced correctly in the movie.
My name is [name]Aisling[/name], I live in [name]Ireland[/name] also, so I can assure that both my name and [name]Aislinn[/name] are pronounced [name]Ash[/name]-ling(rhymes with king) here in [name]Ireland[/name].
The thought of pronouncing my own name as [name]Ace[/name]-ling make my skin crawl, however that is just my own preference.
I love the name [name]Ace[/name] on a boy and consider it a cute NN for [name]Atticus[/name] too.
