Have been thinking about this one for a while! Really like it with my girls names ([name]Lacey[/name], [name]Pearl[/name] and Albus…). What do you think of Albus [name]Reeves[/name] (Albus [name]Percival[/name] [name]Reeves[/name])?
I quite like this name, but I fear for the bullying of [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] related names. Albus [name]Percival[/name] were the first two names of Dumbledore in the books/film. If it wasn’t for that then I would use it. [name]Do[/name] people around you know the [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] series? If not I’d say go for it! If they have then you may wish to consider this side of the name. Have you thought about [name]Albert[/name]?
I’d completely forgotten that Dumbledore’s first middle name was [name]Percival[/name]!! [name]How[/name] funny! We had pretty much decided that this babies middle name will be [name]Percival[/name] before I seriously considered Albus - hehe! I think everyone knows of the [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] series… Not sure it bothers me that much - esp as this is as close as we have come to a name feeling “right” apart from [name]Henry[/name] which unfortunately sounds awkward with our surname
Yes we have considered [name]Albert[/name] - I do like it but prefer the slightly softer sound of Albus I think.
I’m not sure children at the age of 4 when your son starts school will be quite aware of [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] so I’d say go for it if it feels right! I’m quite a fan of Dumbledore so it’s definately not a bad association and [name]Percival[/name] definately works with it x
Go for it! Albus sounds really nice with your girls names. And really, Dumbledore was a respectful, inspiring character. It’s not like you’re going to name him Crabbe or Goyle. I say go right ahead and use Albus Pecival!
Please no. All I think is Albus [name]Percival[/name] Wulfric [name]Brian[/name] Dumbledore. And no matter how good the association may be, it’s just too strong for a child. I feel like a kid who says his name was Albus would be met with disbelief. Like the conversation would go something like this:
“Hey, what’s your name?”
“Albus.”
“No, seriously.”
It just seems like way too strong of a connection. To me, it’s about one step up from naming a kid “[name]Frodo[/name] Baggins.” I would assume that parents with a kid named Albus (especially Albus [name]Percival[/name]) were completely insane. And [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] made JK Rowling the first millionaire author- it’s not a series that’s going away anytime soon. The connection will stay, like it has for the Chronicles of [name]Narnia[/name] and [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings.
I’m sorry if it came across as harsh, I just think it’s a really, really bad idea. [name]Lacey[/name] and [name]Pearl[/name] are such great names, and I think Albus is best reserved for the middle spot.
I have to disagree with [name]Daisy[/name]: I wouldn’t think you were insane, I’d just think you are a diehard fan. And that’s not a bad thing: like someone else said, Albus Dumbledore is a worthy namesake, with the strength of character I’m sure we’d all want our children to grow into. It’s a lot less “out there” than [name]Frodo[/name], because it can be shortened to [name]Al[/name], a perfectly normal and acceptable nickname. As for [name]Percival[/name], most people who aren’t fans probably won’t even remember that that is one of Dumbledore’s middle names. I think the only downside of this name is having to explain to people often that you’re not extreme fans, and it was just a coincidence. But if that’s the only downside to using an amazing name, then I say go for it!
