Alethea - Aletheia

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce them? Which one do you prefer? I usually have a thing for unusual (but legit) spellings ([name_f]Aletheia[/name_f] was my favourite for long), but now I think the pronunciation is already kinda confusing I probably shouldn’t make it harder.

Anyway, how do you imagine an [name_f]Alethea[/name_f]/[name_f]Aletheia[/name_f] to be? Any middle name ideas?

Thanks!

I say [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] as Uh-lee-thee-uh. I assume [name_f]Aletheia[/name_f] is the same, but I’m a little thrown by the spelling, and might have been tempted to say Uh-lee-thay-yuh or something like that if I hadn’t seen it right next to [name_f]Alethea[/name_f]. I’ve met one [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] in my life, but never encountered the spelling [name_f]Aletheia[/name_f] before, though looking it up I see it’s an established variation. My preference would be for [name_f]Alethea[/name_f], it’s a rare and interesting name already with the more straightforward spelling, in my opinion.

I love the name [name_f]Alethea[/name_f], I feel like it’s a great rare but easily wearable pick. I’ve only met one [name_f]Alethea[/name_f], a girl I went to school with, who was pretty, popular, did well academically…possibly involved in theatre? I don’t remember her that well, but much later when I became interested in names I realized her name meant “truth” and thought that was cool!

I think I’d go with a shorter (one or two syllable) middle with a 4 syllable first like [name_f]Alethea[/name_f], but I could see it going in a lot of different style directions.

Pretty!! My initial pronunciation was “al-thea”, completely not noticing the “e”. I prefer the [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] spelling as the “i” seems like an unnecessary letter.

Yeah, I guess I’ll just stick with [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] spelling if I use it. I’ve never met anyone with this name in my life. I am just afraid it’ll always get confused with [name_f]Alicia[/name_f].

I assumed both were pronounced al-uh-[name_m]THAY[/name_m]-uh, since that would be the phonetic Spanish pronunciation of them. I actually really like it that way though. It didn’t even occur to me that it would be pronounced like [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] but with a “th” instead of a “c.” [name_m]How[/name_m] do you mean to pronounce it?

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but at first, I thought it’s pronounced [name_m]Al[/name_m]-eh-thee-uh. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh the confusion of [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] XP. The first time I saw it, I thought it was A-luh-thee-uh, and Altheia A-luh-thay-uh, which I like (the latter especially). Then loads of people seemed to dislike it for the reason that it’s a ‘lispy [name_f]Alicia[/name_f]’, including the Nameberry entry. I was super confused, until I realised A-lee-thee-uh is there too. I quite like both pronunciations (but [name_f]Aletheia[/name_f] more), but I can’t help hear the [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] thing, whenever I’m reminded of it. I like the meaning, and it’s a pretty name, but I decided against it, in preference of [name_f]Althaia[/name_f]/Althaea ([name_m]Al[/name_m]-thay-uh) instead.

I like [name_f]Aletheia[/name_f]…

@myosotis you know… the more I look into it, the more I find different possible pronunciations. I love the look of [name_f]Aletheia[/name_f] more, but if [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] is already confusing, I guess [name_f]Aletheia[/name_f] is even more…? ^^" unfortunately I don’t like Althaea. I was thinking of [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] [name_f]Selene[/name_f] or [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], but maybe… maybe if pronunciation is such a big issue like this, I’ll decide against it too.
