My husband likes [name]Alexander[/name] (nn [name]Alex[/name]) for a boy. He doesn’t like [name]Al[/name] for a nickname, and we’re not into [name]Zander[/name]/[name]Xander[/name]/[name]Zan[/name]/[name]Xan[/name]. I love [name]Alexander[/name] nn [name]Alex[/name], but happen to know more females named [name]Alex[/name] than males.
Is [name]Alex[/name] too unisex a name for a brother to [name]James[/name] and [name]Will[/name] (and [name]Elise[/name])?
Honest opinions appreciated, including that I am overthinking this!
[name]Alexander[/name] isn’t unisex at all and matches up well with [name]James[/name] and [name]Will[/name] (and [name]Elise[/name]). His NN may be a unisex NN, but lots of NNs are unisex. No problem at all. Works well with your sibset.
Nah, I don’t think it’s unisex. It’s a nickname, and most female [name]Alexes[/name] are also nicknamed, so I don’t think it’s an inherently feminine name or anything.
I love [name]Alexis[/name] on a boy, and even that I don’t think it’s too unisex. Your daughter is named [name]Elise[/name] which is super feminine, so in my mind, in a sibset when a girl has a super feminine names, the boys can have a more gender-neutral (or “originally boy but now used for both”) without being assumed to be a girl.
I think you’re totally safe with [name]Alexander[/name] nn [name]Alex[/name]. Very handsome choice!
[name]Alexander[/name] is handsome and distinguised and [name]Alex[/name] is used often enough for boys that there shouldn’t be much gender confusion. Have you considered [name]Alec[/name]? I think [name]Alexander[/name] would work well with [name]James[/name], [name]Will[/name] and [name]Elise[/name].
[name]Alexander[/name] is the same level of classic as [name]James[/name] and [name]William[/name], it just has a nickname. I think you’re over thinking it.
I know 2 [name]Alexes[/name]. [name]One[/name] is my 2nd cousin, who’s full name is [name]Alexandria[/name], and the other is my neighbor’s grandson, who’s full name is [name]Alexander[/name], and it’s not even his first name. I think it would work, as long as it’s a nn, not a full name.
