I know it says “[name]Alexis[/name]” is a unisex name but I like it as a girl’s name. I don’t know any boy with that name? Have you seen it? And would you name your boy [name]Alexis[/name], or just a girl?
:).

I’ve only heard this used for girls. I wouldn’t use it for a boy, but not because it’s too girly, just because I don’t really care for it.
[name]Even[/name] though [name]Alexis[/name] still ranks modestly for boys in the U.S., I think the majority of them are Hispanic (or from some other non-Anglo culture). If you look at the stats in [name]Canada[/name], you’ll see a similar pattern with [name]Alexis[/name] being more popular for boys in [name]Quebec[/name] and for girls in the other provinces. This is a name whose gender usage is largely drawn along linguistic lines; predominately female in English-speaking areas and more common on males in most other cultures.
As for my personal opinion on the name, as with the PP it’s not my style either way.
I think [name]Alexei[/name] is a great boy name! I love the name [name]Alexis[/name], but for girls.
I prefers for a boy, though if I heard it, I would assume it was a girl.
I know about 5 guys named [name]Alexis[/name]. I definitely, definitely prefer it on a guy, and it’s a very masculine name, in my opinion.
As a girl named [name]Alexis[/name], the name is all girl to me. although I am aware in some European countries, it is a boy’s name.
I actually love [name]Alexis[/name] for a boy. I know a woman who is married to an [name]Alexis[/name] (nn [name]Alex[/name]), and I know a mom who has a [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Alexis[/name], too. [name]Nathaniel[/name] is in [name]France[/name], though, and the grown [name]Alexis[/name] is from Central [name]America[/name], I believe, so that could explain it. I think it’s a great choice for a guy but I seem to latch onto these unisex names that are seen as very girly (examples: [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Avery[/name], [name]Aubrey[/name], [name]Harper[/name], [name]Addison[/name], etc.) and want to use them for a guy… which pretty much explains it, lol.
Girl!! Would not consider this name for a guy. Never heard it for a guy… I like [name]Alex[/name] for a boy.
I think it could sound masculine in theory, but I associate it almost solely with girls at this point. Can’t really imagine a little baby boy named [name]Alexis[/name]!
I consider [name]Alexis[/name] to be a boys name used on girls. I don’t see anything feminine about it, especially the -is ending. [name]Alexa[/name] or [name]Alexia[/name] are so much prettier for girls!
All boy to me.
Vastly prefer [name]Alexa[/name] or [name]Alexandra[/name] or even [name]Alexandrina[/name] for a girl, but I would be pessimistic enough to expect an [name]Alexis[/name] to be a girl. I do not care for it though.
If I were naming a boy I would use probably [name]Alexander[/name] or a variant like [name]Alasdair[/name]. I don’t mind [name]Alexis[/name] on boys but wouldn’t go there myself. I am rather fond of [name]Alyosha[/name] but I would only use that as a nickname for [name]Alexander[/name]/Aleksander.
If I were naming a girl I would pick a feminine version.
My paternal great-grandfather was [name]German[/name] and his first name was [name]Alexis[/name]. I think it’s handsome on a boy, and cute on a girl…this is one of the few unisex names I am on the fence about gender-wise!
Female, but maybe that is my experience from most people I have met or have heard of with the name were girls and also the actress [name]Alexis[/name] Bledel. [name]Alexei[/name] for a boy is cute though.
To me, it’s totally feminine. I’d rather [name]Alexi[/name] for a boy. I’d never use it on a boy.
I know a boy with [name]Alexis[/name] as a middle name. His father also has [name]Alexis[/name] as a middle name.
My mother named me [name]Alexis[/name] specifically because she knew it was a boy’s name (she did the same for my sister [name]Ashley[/name]), so I’ve always looked at it as a gender-neutral. When I was in 6th grade there was a male 8th grader with the same name, but as many have pointed out, he was Hispanic. And once, an older gentleman saw my name tag at work and said, “You have a boy’s name!” and I said, “I know!” lol [name]Plenty[/name] of people have told me it’s a beautiful name, but I think it’s kinda harsh with the ‘xis’ ending, and I’d never pass it on to either gender. Too many pretty names for that!
[name]Alexis[/name]
Boy AND girl. It’s unisex. Unisex names don’t have a set gender - I think they should stay that way.
I’ve seen it both ways. I have a female cousin called [name]Alexis[/name] (she always goes by [name]Lex[/name]), but I also think of the male actor [name]Alexis[/name] Denisof when I hear it. Personally, I wouldn’t use it for either sex, because it’s a little too Dynasty for me.
