[name_f]My[/name_f] husband is very traditional in the names he likes, whereas I enjoy putting a slight spin on them, or making them uncommon at least. He has a very common name, I have a very uncommon name.
Regardless, his favorite girl’s name is [name_f]Alice[/name_f]!
I think it’s pretty, absolutely, but… missing something. Is it ridiculous of me to suggest the older, original versions of [name_f]Alice[/name_f], such as Aelis or [name_f]Alys[/name_f]? Or even [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], from which [name_f]Alice[/name_f] was also derived from.
Honestly, I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. It’s quite simple but beautiful. And the thing is, it’s such a well known name that everyone will always spell it ‘‘[name_f]Alice[/name_f]’’ so if you spell it ‘‘[name_f]Alys[/name_f]’’ or ‘‘Aelis’’ she’ll always have to correct people. I do love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] too, though.
I’m with pp in that I too prefer the [name_f]Alice[/name_f] spelling. I think it’s a beautiful name and it would be easier for your daughter as she won’t have to constantly correct people on the spelling.
However, I totally get you with wanting a more uncommon name. Have you considered using a more unusual middle name/putting [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in the middle spot with a completely different first name? I’m not sure about your style but here’s some examples:
I’m a sucker for archaic forms of names, but people will definitely think that Aelis and [name_f]Alys[/name_f] are made up (I do love them, though). What about [name_f]Ailis[/name_f] (ay-lish), the Irish form, or even [name_f]Ailsa[/name_f] which, though not related, has a similar feel.
I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f] on its own! I appreciate wanted to have a unique spin on the name . I would suggest a vibrant middle name
I also came to suggest [name_f]Ailis[/name_f] and [name_f]Ailsa[/name_f] or maybe even [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] , [name_f]Alis[/name_f] or [name_f]Alise[/name_f]/Elis/Elyse
Alice is stunning, timeless and sophisticated!
What about [name_f]Annelise[/name_f], [name_f]Maelys[/name_f], [name_f]Aline[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/Beatrix, [name_f]Marise[/name_f] or [name_f]Elise[/name_f]?
I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Alice[/name_f], but I first saw [name_f]Alyss[/name_f] in a book and loved it immediately, and I like [name_f]Alys[/name_f] as well! I like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] but it sounds and feels pretty different than [name_f]Alice[/name_f], so I’m not sure I’d consider it a replacement/alternative for [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] never stands out to me, but I do like it. I can see it’s classic, but the “a-lice” spelling is something to note. That said, its round “A” sound at the beginning is scrumptious and lovely! I’d say its positives far outweigh its negatives by a great margin
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] “[name_u]Allie[/name_u]” or “[name_u]Allie[/name_u]-[name_u]Jo[/name_u]” would be a cute combo, though!
I also like [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] fav names are [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Savannah[/name_f], [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] if that helps you decide whether to trust my judgment
I have always loved [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]. Only issue is we both have very long last names- we are thinking about changing it to something of our own, but haven’t yet. I wouldn’t want them to have [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] (10 letters) with a 9 or 11 letter long last name.
Charlotte is also a favorite here! I do find [name_f]Alice[/name_f] a classic; I hadn’t even thought of a-lice, to be honest. I adore A sounds like it, like [name_f]Avalyn[/name_f] and [name_u]Atlas[/name_u]. <3
