Alice and Elise too similar?

I love the name Alice for my daughter but my sister-in-law’s name is Elise. I know the names are quite similar. Do you think that matters?

Allison, Allyson, Alison, etc?
otherwise yes, they are too similar.

If they were siblings then I’d say yes, but given they’re just extended family members I think it’s perfectly fine.

For siblings they’re way too close, but aunt and niece are fine. Maybe ask SIL what she thinks if you’re concerned though.

I agree with a lot of the other comments- there’s enough room in the lineage so that it’s not an issue! It’s a lovely name.

I thought this was for sisters and my answer was “oh absolutely too similar” but since that’s not the case I think it’s totally fine, nicknames might come in handy for when you have family get togethers but I think that can totally be a cross that bridge when you get there kind of deal.

As other posters have said, I don’t think it’s too close for an aunt and a niece, but maybe ask Elise how she would feel. I doubt she’ll have a problem with it :slightly_smiling_face:

It would not work for sisters, but for a niece and aunt it’s absolutely fine.

If it were sisters I would think so, but for an Aunt/niece dynamic, not too close. You can definitely use Alice.

They would be too similar for a nuclear family imo, but since it’s aunt and niece, I think it’s fine!
