Alice - strong or weak? Dark or light?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] as a strong or weak sounding name? Also, do you think the name is light and soft or does it have a darker, almost gothic feel?
[name_u]Love[/name_u] to hear your thoughts…

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is not a weak name, but it does have a soft sound. A bit too soft for my taste. It’s a lovely choice though.

I agree with @southern.maple. At first I was thinking it was a weaker name, but I think she’s right–it’s more soft, and too soft for me. I see it as a lighter name (mainly because I see it as sunshine peaking through think fog, or textured creamy white and pale mauve pink/peach), but when you said gothic, that instantly made sense, too. [name_m]Light[/name_m] and gothic? Does that make any sense at all? lol.

I agree with the other posts. I don’t think it’s weak but I do find it to be soft and sweet. I actually love it, and would have used it if it didn’t rhyme with my last name.

Very soft and light feel, however my boyfriend thinks it is dark because of the rock band [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Chains.

I’m going to say soft rather than weak because that’s closer to what I mean. Soft and light as opposed to hard and dark

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is sweet and ladylike, gentle yet strong.

Agree with bellaczh. I feel it’s a happy name too, a girl with a creative streak.

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is arty, Victorian, quiet & bookish. Also, rather enigmatic, rebellious yet principled & determined. I guess it would make a good steam punk name. So, yes, there’s an interplay between dark & light. However, you could accentuate the light by adding a light middle like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] or the gothic side by adding [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] etc.

I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f] sounds sweet and feminine.

I would say strong and light.

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is white for me and is not strong but not what you would call weak. It has a softer sound though.

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is gentle, but not weak. I’m not sure whether she’s either dark or light particularly, but that’s because I class her in the same category as [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] etc.: too popular for me to have definitive imagery of the name, and so neither one nor the other.

I think it depends on your experiences. My aunt was named [name_f]Alice[/name_f], I have very fond memories of her, but she wasn’t weak.

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a classic name, and I would not hesitate to use it or encourage anyone to name their daughter [name_f]Alice[/name_f].

Strong but light-hearted. If it had a color to represent it, I’d think buttercup yellow.

If I had to pick one or the other of both criteria, I would say it is weak and light.

[name_f]Alice[/name_f]. My first association with the name was reading [name_f]Alice[/name_f] Through The Looking Glass, then learning about [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. There has never been an [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in my family. I think the name is strong, not soft. When you say it out loud, it’s a very distinct and compact name that also has breadth. I put it in the same category as [name_f]Maud[/name_f]. I find [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Anne[/name_f] be a softer names than [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. I also think it’s a very reserved, serious and upright-sounding name. It sounds to me like an [name_f]Alice[/name_f] wouldn’t be very sweet, she would be fussy and conservative. I know the Twilight character is sweet and bright, but that has very little meaning. Is it Gothic? I would say it’s Steampunk.

Strong and light. It could also be dark, though. Depends on the bearer.
