Alida --lovely no?

[name]One[/name] of my colleagues interviewed a woman who turned 106 today (one of those community news stories celebrating a senior’s special birthday) Her name is [name]Alida[/name]. Nameberry says it’s latin for “[name]Noble[/name]” It was totally new to me and I love it so I thought I’d throw it out to the forum too in case it was new to others.

I like it. I like a lot of the [name]Al[/name]- girls’ names. My user name is a name I found on an old tombstone that struck me as cool, though not one I’d ever give to a child. [name]Alida[/name] sounds a bit exotic, with a Spanish or Italian feel to it, at least to me.

I too write for a small community newspaper, and just two weeks ago did an interview with a man who just turned 100! His name was [name]Raymond[/name], with a sister Alverna who died when she was only 18, and another sister whom I THOUGHT he called something like “Ellroe” but I can’t figure out what he actually said.

I wholeheartedly agree with you - [name]Alida[/name] is lovely! It’s also elegant and romantic with a touch of European exotic flair. An undiscovered gem!

I just found this name in an old social register and fell in loves with it! It is soft, yet rhythmic and melodic, under used yet easy to spell and pronounce. Pretty much a great name!

[name]How[/name] is it pronounced? It looks really nice.

She pronounces it uh [name]LEE[/name] duh. Her last name is Desrochers so it’s extra wonderful.

I love the name [name]Alida[/name], but my husband thinks it would sound funny saying I’m [name]Alida[/name] (sounding like i’m a leader).

YES! [name]Alida[/name] is one of those uncommon, but uncomplicated gems that are a delightful surprise. [name]One[/name] of the joys in genealogy research is finding names like [name]Alida[/name] im a family tree full of [name]Mary[/name], [name]Anna[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], etc. Not that those names are perfectly fine, but those slightly unusual names give a little insight into how much creativity was lurking in the branches.

I think [name]Alida[/name] is beautiful! Thanks for sharing it!

I know a girl named [name]Elida[/name], pronounced almost the same way, but never [name]Alida[/name]. I like it!

I know an [name]Alida[/name] in her twenties, and she pronounces it uh-lye-duh

I know a 90-year-old [name]Alida[/name] - pronounces it “[name]AH[/name]-lih-dah.”
Perhaps because of her, I find the name elegant and soulful.

I love [name]Alida[/name]! I would love to see it used. So pretty.

I really like it! I read a book once with a girl named [name]Aleda[/name] in it and I pronounced it the same way. I think I might like the [name]Alida[/name] spelling a bit more though

I love the name [name]Alida[/name]. It’s so simple and beautiful!

I think it’s a more common name in Europe, places like Germany, [name]Sweden[/name], Estonia, Norway, Poland, Czech Republic, Croatia. [name]Even[/name] in Albania (where I live) it’s kind of common between older ladies (40 and up).
