[name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] is the Scottish form of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] so it’s the most “proper” spelling. [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] and [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] are Anglicized forms. [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] would be my second choice. I’m not a fan of [name_m]Alistair[/name_m].
I prefer the [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] spelling, not sure why, maybe because it is the spelling I have seen used more. I pronounce it al-is-ter. I have only seen the [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] and [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] spellings.
I prefer the [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] spelling, but the original spelling of [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] is a close second. I adore this name and it’s been on my list for ages. My only concern is that people will pronounce it al-iss-tare rather than al-iss-ter.
I prefer [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] because it’s the proper Scottish spelling. I try to avoid Anglicized versions of names unless the original form is too confusing or really hard to spell, which [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] isn’t.
I like [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] best. The word ‘stair’ throws me off a bit.
I prefer [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m]. I am likewise thrown off by the “stair” bit.
I loved [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] as a middle name for years and years, but my fiancé won’t let it happen.
Thankyou everyone. I think I’m swaying towards the original Scottish spelling of [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m], but am wondering… how would you pronounce it? Would it be “A-liss-der” or “A-liss-ter”? (or another way?)
I chose [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] because I think it is the most masculine and handsome of the choices.
And I pronounce it A-liss-der.
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m] and [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] are my favorites but I like [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] just wee bit more than [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m].
[name_m]Alastair[/name_m]. It looks the best written down of the choices (I’m not a fan of the look of [name_m]Alistair[/name_m]) yet it still has more of an intuitive pronunciation than [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] does. [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this name, but I am biased as I have a 7 yr old [name_m]Alastair[/name_m].
