Thank you for the love, @leafsgirl44, @baya44, and @missniwalyra!
CATEGORY 1: YOUR LIST
1. What is your favorite girl’s name?
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] ![]()
2. What is your favorite boy’s name?
Lately, [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], but it’s been favorite by committee since [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] fell out of favor for me… on any given day it could be [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], or [name_u]Aquila[/name_u]. ![]()
3. What is the longest name/combo on your list?
Longest combo is tied between [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] [name_u]Louise[/name_u], [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], and [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (21 letters each).
4. What is the shortest name/combo on your list?
[name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_m]Ian[/name_m] [name_u]George[/name_u] tie for shortest (14 letters each).
5. Tell me the story behind a favorite name of yours.
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f].
I was dreadfully depressed from about 2007 through 2014, suicidal at points (<-hiding for potential triggers->), and completely hopeless. At that point, television shows were the only thing that made me feel semi alive. I had really gotten hooked on the TV show Alias, and when [name_u]Michael[/name_u] and [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] were naming their baby and decided on [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], I was completely gobsmacked by how lovely she was. I’d loved [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] for a while, and had even come across [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] in other stories, etc., but it never clicked like it did when I saw watching that show. In the midst of a lot of despair, [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] was this lovely, shimmering, hopeful thing that completely took my breath away. She was lots of hope in the midst of a very dark time, and, consequently, my first real association to my synesthesia when it comes to names. She was like the purest, clearest creek with twinkling gems of every color–green and pink and blue and purple and yellow–covering the creek bed and just twinkling in the warmth of the sun. The meaning of the name, “[name_f]My[/name_f] God is a vow,” plus her absolute loveliness was a vow from God to me in a time when I was without hope that there WOULD be hope, and beauty, and that He was still with me. I’ve since switched from [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] to the Scottish [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], but [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] has that same loveliness and the same promise from my God with this beautiful visions of the [name_f]Fairy[/name_f] Pools and fields of heather and rugged highlands and crumbling castles and cathedrals. ![]()
6. What is the newest name/combo on your list?
Newest names to my list are [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] and [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m]. Newest full combo is [name_u]Orion[/name_u] [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. Newest partial combo is [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] Greystoke.
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] has been on my radar for forever, so I don’t really count her as the newest combo, and I don’t have anything for [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] yet.
7. What is the oldest name/combo on your list?
Probably [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]/Isobel [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] has been on my radar for nearly a decade now.
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_m]Ian[/name_m] [name_u]George[/name_u] has been around for nearly as long though!
8. What is the most underrated name on your list? (In your opinion!)
Oh, goodness, I feel like I have a lot of these. [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] (although pretty popular on here, much less so in real life!), [name_u]Aquila[/name_u], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Reef[/name_m], [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m], [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m], [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f], [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f], etc. Maybe [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m], though… I hardly ever hear him, and he has SUCH a lovely name and is so usable… why is [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m] so rare???
9. What is the most unique name on your list?
Uhh, I have quite a few outside the top 1000; not sure which has the least uses, but these are all the FNs not on the top 1000: [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f], [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f], [name_f]Eleni[/name_f], [name_u]Tali[/name_u], [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_u]Aquila[/name_u], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m], [name_m]Reef[/name_m], [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m], [name_m]Eoghan[/name_m], [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m].
10. What is the most common/popular name on your list?
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] (19), but [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] (22), [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] (27), and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (36) aren’t far behind!
11. If you had to let go of a name on your list, which name would it be?
I keep a top 20 for each gender so probably will end up letting go a lot of them, haha, but the easiest to go would probably be [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] or [name_m]Peter[/name_m] for a boy, [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] or [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] for a girl. Today anyway.
12. What name on your list did you fall in love with at first sight?
Does [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] count? lol. Most took a while to develop, but [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_u]Aquila[/name_u], and [name_m]Reef[/name_m] were pretty much instantaneous loves.
CATEGORY 2: THEMED NAMES
13. What is your favorite trendy name?
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] for sure. ![]()
14. What is your ultimate GP name?
I can never think of GPs when I need to! lol. Probably [name_u]Brady[/name_u] for a girl. ducks & hides
15. What is your favorite floral name?
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] are all on my list, so I guess it’s a toss-up? [name_f]Violet[/name_f] technically ranks highest on my list right now, but I could see [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] taking her pace, if I didn’t love [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] so much as a nn for [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
16. What is your favorite word name? (non-floral)
Does it count if it’s a word name in another language? Because if so, [name_f]Lærke[/name_f] 1000000%. Honors so many family members and it’s such a lilting, soft, unexpectedly beautiful name. [name_f]English[/name_f] word name, probably [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] or [name_m]Reef[/name_m]. [name_u]Grey[/name_u], [name_u]Fife[/name_u], and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] are also on my list… I’m not a huge word name person.
17. What is your favorite space-themed name?
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]!!! [name_u]Orion[/name_u] for a boy. I also like [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] a lot.
18. What is your favorite month or week name? (e.g. July, Friday)
[name_u]Day[/name_u] name would be [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], for the reminder of what happened on [name_f]Easter[/name_f] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f].
I am partial to [name_u]March[/name_u] because it’s my birth month, but [name_u]June[/name_u] is also growing on me and I like [name_f]Mae[/name_f] for my grandmother. I have a weird affinity to [name_u]January[/name_u] (and [name_u]Janvier[/name_u]!) but probably wouldn’t use them. I have a weird thing for month names in other languages… I think [name_u]Janvier[/name_u] and [name_f]Juillet[/name_f] are SO cool.
19. What is your favorite Greek mythology name?
I don’t even know. I wouldn’t use a mythological name because of my faith anyway, but maybe [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] (like that there’s a [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] in the Bible, too!), or [name_f]Maia[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], or [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]. I’m a big [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] fan but probably wouldn’t use her, and prefer the Hebrew origins of [name_f]Maya[/name_f] over [name_f]Maia[/name_f].
20. What is your favorite name from Harry Potter?
Oh, goodness, don’t even know. I know next to nothing about HP. I’m one of very few people who haven’t gotten into the series and really have no desire to. Knowing absolutely nothing about the characters, I think [name_m]Draco[/name_m], [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], and [name_m]Sirius[/name_m] make super cool names, but pretty sure at least [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] isn’t a very lovely character. ![]()
21. What is your favorite name from F.R.I.E.N.D.S?
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f] for sure. I’ve loved the name [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] for eons. I am quite fond of [name_u]Chandler[/name_u] and [name_m]Ross[/name_m] too!
22. What is your favorite biblical name?
Too many to count! lol. [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f], [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], and [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] rank highest on my list, but I’m a big fan of [name_f]Eve[/name_f]/Eva, [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], and [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] too.
23. What is your favorite name with an unfortunate meaning?
I guess [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. I actually love the meaning but I know a lot of people are put off by it. It seems rather insulting to me to categorically write off a name that means a physical handicap (like “blind”), so the dislike rubs me the wrong way, but I have a whole thing about [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and the way [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] treated the blind, haha… this is probably not the right place for it.
24. What is your favorite name with a meaning related to the ocean?
The only one on my list right now is [name_m]Reef[/name_m], but I also adore [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]/Oceanus, [name_f]Kaia[/name_f], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], [name_u]Mariner[/name_u], [name_u]Harbor[/name_u], and [name_f]Marine[/name_f].
25. What is your favorite totally made-up name?
Uhh… can’t think of one right now haha. Maybe Greyston/Grayston? I love it as a more surnamey alternative to uber-popular [name_u]Grayson[/name_u], but I’m pretty sure it has zero history.
CATEGORY 3: INTERNATIONAL NAMES
26. What is your favorite Māori name?
Te [name_f]Aroha[/name_f] is amazing.
A very good friend of mine used Anahira/Anahera as a middle for one of her (half Maori) daughters, and I always liked that too.
27. What is your favorite Irish name?
[name_m]Eoghan[/name_m], [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m], and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] are all on my boys’ list… I guess technically [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] but he could be a word name too, so maybe [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m] since he ranks higher for me than [name_m]Eoghan[/name_m] due to his straightforward spelling? Not a huge fan of Irish names for girls, maybe [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] or [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f]. [name_f]Fionnabhair[/name_f] (finn-ah-vare) is a huge GP.
28. What is your favorite English name?
[name_m]Jack[/name_m], maybe? [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_m]Reef[/name_m], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]… not sure if they really count because most are either word names or come from another origin and are traditional in [name_f]English[/name_f] now.
29. What is your favorite Turkish name?
LOVE [name_f]Esma[/name_f]/Azma/Azra and [name_m]Aslan[/name_m] for a boy.
30. What is your favorite Hebrew name?
Too many to count! [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] and [name_u]Tali[/name_u] top the list for girls, [name_m]Ben[/name_m]-[name_u]Ami[/name_u] for boys. [name_f]Nechama[/name_f], [name_f]Odelia[/name_f], [name_f]Maya[/name_f], [name_f]Tehila[/name_f], [name_u]Yuval[/name_u], [name_m]Noam[/name_m], [name_m]Moshe[/name_m], [name_m]Eliam[/name_m], and [name_m]Avram[/name_m] are also huge favorites.
31. What is your favorite Japanese name?
[name_f]Amaya[/name_f] or [name_f]Hana[/name_f]? Not hugely familiar with Japanese names tbh.
32. What is your favorite Hawaiian name?
[name_f]Auli’i[/name_f] or Kailei (kye-lay). I also love [name_f]Kaia[/name_f].
33. What is your favorite Indian name?
It’s a tie between [name_f]Priya[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilavati[/name_f]!
34. What is your favorite Russian name?
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] or [name_m]Semyon[/name_m]. I also love [name_f]Nadia[/name_f]/Nadezhda.
35. List some other international favorites of various origins!
Icelandic: Mæja
Polish: [name_f]Hania[/name_f] ([name_f]Hania[/name_f] is to [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] in Polish as [name_f]Anya[/name_f] is to [name_f]Anna[/name_f] in Russian!), [name_f]Michalina[/name_f]
Zulu: Isisa (eep, I love this name!!)
Italian: [name_f]Maddalena[/name_f], [name_m]Cristiano[/name_m]
[name_m]Dutch[/name_m]: [name_f]Fenna[/name_f], [name_f]Madelief[/name_f]
Hungarian: Mihaly, [name_f]Rahel[/name_f]
Portugese: [name_m]Simão[/name_m], Abraão, [name_f]Margarida[/name_f], [name_f]Amora[/name_f], Amália, [name_f]Evora[/name_f]
Greek: [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m], [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]
CATEGORY 4: TAG A BERRY
36. [name_m]Tag[/name_m] a Berry with names of a very similar style to you
I think the closest are these three? @baya44, @auroradawn, @acajou?
37. [name_m]Tag[/name_m] a Berry with OPPOSITE style to you, but whose names you love anyway
It’s been a while since I’ve been terribly active on nameberry honestly… maybe @coffeeorangecats? I LOVE her taste but our styles don’t always match up.
38. [name_m]Tag[/name_m] a Berry whose names you admire from afar, but rarely speak to
Uh, probably a lot. I’ve not been very active on nb lately. ![]()
39. [name_m]Tag[/name_m] a Berry who helped you discover a love for a new name
@dearest! She introduced me to a combo rather than a name in general ([name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], still a huge favorite!), but anyways.
40. [name_m]Tag[/name_m] a Berry whose names you’re always on the lookout for
@seawillow 10000000%. Also @aerieeerie!
41. [name_m]Tag[/name_m] a Berry who influenced your naming style
Too many to count.
I especially love @babies123456 for teaching me about Hebrew names, though; they’ve become such an integral part of my list. ![]()
CATEGORY 5: OPINIONS
42. What’s a name everyone seems to love, but you’re not a fan of?
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Oliver[/name_u].
43. What’s a name everyone seems to dislike, but you love?
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]‘s probably the closest. Otherwise, not sure haha.
44. What do you think of alliterative names? What’s your favorite alliterative name? (e.g. Alaska Anouk, Madeleine Mae)
I love alliteration when it works! I don’t have an alliterative combo on my list just now, but wouldn’t be opposed to it. I used to love [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Odette[/name_f].
45. [name_f]Do[/name_f] name meanings matter to you?
They’re not a deciding factor on whether I keep a name around, but they definitely do add a layer of charm for me if it’s a lovely meaning. [name_m]Case[/name_m] in point, [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]. ![]()
46. What’s your opinion on traditionally masculine names for girls, and traditionally feminine names for boys?
Not a fan personally. [name_u]Brady[/name_u]‘s a GP but I love names like [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], [name_u]Addison[/name_u], etc. on boys, so I guess that should tell you something?
47. Does name popularity influence your name decisions?
Rarely. I do love a LOT of names outside of the top 1000; I think that’s just sort of because how eclectic my list is and my preference for rare Biblical and international names. But I have a lot of popular top 100 names especially on my girls list, but also on the boys ([name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], etc.), so my list really is all over the place.
48. How much do other Berry opinions influence your name decisions?
Eh. I use it as a gauge to keep me in check from going TOO crazy ([name_m]Barzillai[/name_m], Pudens, Greystoke, le sigh).
49. What’s your opinion on using long, (but beautiful), easily mispronounced non-English names in an English-speaking country?
Eh, I’d have to be really committed to use it. I’m not unaware that it could be pretty unpleasant to deal with on a daily basis, but if the name meant enough, I would seriously consider it. [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] and [name_m]Eoghan[/name_m] are on my list, but I wouldn’t consider them long. I would not use [name_f]Fionnabhair[/name_f], [name_m]Sebastião[/name_m], or [name_f]Nadezhda[/name_f] over [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], and [name_f]Nadia[/name_f].
50. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you follow naming trends?
I think a good part of my girls’ style does, but I’m not sure you could say my boys’ style does. haha. They could maybe fit trends but are definitely still very rare for the most part.
CATEGORY 6: MISC
51. What was the FIRST name you can remember loving? Do you still like/love it now?
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and [name_m]Peter[/name_m] were my respective first loves. I still LOVE [name_m]Peter[/name_m] ([name_u]Augustine[/name_u] [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is in my top 10; I’m considering adding [name_m]Peter[/name_m] as a FN too), and like [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] but probably wouldn’t use her. I’ve fallen out of love with the nn [name_u]Abby[/name_u] and feel like I couldn’t guarantee JUST [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. I’m sort of thinking of adding her as a middle (considered [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Eliane[/name_f] the other day!), but I’m not sure. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Lacey[/name_f], and [name_u]Bryn[/name_u] (b) are other lifelong loves… [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is in my top 5 right now and as a family name, probably won’t ever go far away. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] I ADORE but am not sure I’d use her since [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] means so much, but I’d love to find a home for her. [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is a like but never seems like a love enough to add her to my list. [name_f]Lacey[/name_f] I’d add in a heartbeat for the right combo, and [name_u]Bryn[/name_u] I really like and would love to use to honor my Welsh ancestry, but with [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]'s current popularity for girls, who knows what’ll happen there.
52. Cutest matching names for twins?
I always liked [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] together, but I’m sort of over that… probably [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and [name_f]Adele[/name_f] lol, or maybe [name_f]Adele[/name_f] and [name_u]Aquila[/name_u]? [name_u]Tali[/name_u] and [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f]? [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]? [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] and [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]? [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Judah[/name_m]? [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_m]Reuben[/name_m]? [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_u]Everett[/name_u]?
53. If you had to give your kid a family name, what name would you pick?
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_m]John[/name_m] nn [name_m]Jack[/name_m], probably? I also like [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] but not up front. As a more contrived honor, [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f], or [name_m]Boaz[/name_m].
54. What’s the best name in your family tree?
I think [name_m]Drury[/name_m] is pretty epic.
I also love No@h, [name_f]Ave[/name_f].ry, Em3line, [name_m]Lott[/name_m]!e, etc.
55. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer the ‘Hot Takes’ thread or the ‘Quick Poll’ thread? Why?
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t really follow either honestly!
56. Show me some ‘aesthetic’ pictures that you feel match the vibe of your name.
[name_f]My[/name_f] internet doesn’t like me, so skipping this one. ![]()

ngl I changed my space themed name three times scrolling down this thread because I always thought of a better one!
