I have a group of antagonists under a government they feel to be unfair. They see themselves as like [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood’s merry band, and have codenames such as ‘[name_u]Robin[/name_u]’, ‘[name_m]John[/name_m]’, ‘[name_m]Tuck[/name_m]’, and ‘[name_u]Marian[/name_u]’. But I’m having trouble with their real names. Could you please help me?

My antagonists are:

‘[name_u]Robin[/name_u]’: the leader, and the founder of the cause. Most of his family are in jail, some being innocent convicts. He’s an anarchist who genuinely believes that most if not all laws are counterproductive.

‘[name_u]Marian[/name_u]’: the hijacker and the best friend/crush of the leader. She likes picking locks and fencing, but her favorite hobby is scribbling down ideas for a nonfiction book she’s planning to publish someday. Her ideal is freedom, and while she understands that order is good, she also believes that those at the top are oppressive to those at the bottom who hold them up.

‘[name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m]’ or just ‘[name_m]John[/name_m]’: the second-in-command and the best at hand-to-hand combat. ‘[name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m]’ is actually female, but she took a male codename because it was easier. She’s not a tomboy, per se, but she’s more comfortable in a less ‘girly’ setting.

‘[name_m]Will[/name_m] [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f]’: the swordsman who often fences with ‘[name_u]Marian[/name_u]’. ‘[name_m]Will[/name_m]’ is actually '[name_u]Robin[/name_u]‘s’ cousin, not a nephew. His hobby is gardening, and he’s a skilled herbalist and healer. He’s also a ginger, hence the fittingness of his name. It’s possible that he’s unsatisfied with his name, because he prefers going by [name_m]Will[/name_m] [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f].

For [name_u]Robin[/name_u]: I think [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] works well. It has a similar feel and means leader, cunning.

For [name_u]Marian[/name_u]: Since she like to fence, [name_f]Brenda[/name_f] means blade of a sword.

For [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m]: [name_m]Ben[/name_m]/[name_m]Benjamina[/name_m], because it means daughter of my right hand, and she is second in command. She could then still use the masculine nickname, Ben.

For [name_m]Will[/name_m] Scarlet: [name_m]Rudyard[/name_m] means red, like his hair.

[name_m]Will[/name_m] [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f]: [name_m]Rudyard[/name_m] is a good idea. I like [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and [name_m]Rudyard[/name_m], and [name_f]Benjamina[/name_f] sounds interesting, but I don’t really think [name_f]Brenda[/name_f] fits my fencer. It’s still a great suggestion and I’d like to see it on one of my characters, just not this one.

To sparkleninja18, it’s kind of funny that yu suggested [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], because one of my protagonists is named [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] Wilde, actually. So you have a good idea of what I like there, but I’ve already used [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] and though the idea of the two having the same name is ticklish, I want to look for something else. [name_f]Lux[/name_f] sounds great too.

I totally understand what you mean about names fitting certain characters. Maybe you are looking for something with a nature feel for [name_u]Marian[/name_u], like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or something else plant related, like [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]? Or if you’re looking for something fairy like, maybe Faye?

I find this thread very interesting. I can’t wait to see what your final choices are.

So! My final choices for the gang:

‘[name_u]Robin[/name_u]’ - [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] [name_m]Layton[/name_m]

I liked the [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], but it didn’t go as well, so I saved that as one of his other pseudonyms instead, and added it to his backstory as something his parents considered as a first name instead of [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. He’s of Irish/English descent, though the Welsh middle name is after a family friend.

‘[name_u]Marian[/name_u]’ - [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] (kee-rah) [name_u]Lennox[/name_u]

Also of British origin, though I think she’s a bit more English than her name implies. Her parents were never married, and she has a stepfather (and stepsiblings) she loves, although she learned fencing from her biological father, [name_u]Kieran[/name_u], who she’s named after.

‘[name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m]’ - [name_f]Jade[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_m]Greyson[/name_m]

The last name is still in the works, haha. [name_f]Jade[/name_f] is outwardly quiet, but she and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] have been friends since forever, and she’s one of the very few people who know his secret. Though she doesn’t look it, she’s actually physically stronger than [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], and has to bail him out of trouble when [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]'s out doing other things.

‘[name_m]Will[/name_m] [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f]’ - [name_m]Rudyard[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]

[name_u]Rudy[/name_u] is one of [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]'s cousins, though how jet-haired [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] ended up with a fiery redhead for a cousin is anyone’s guess (not really, since [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]'s father is adopted and [name_u]Rudy[/name_u]'s mother is one of his adopted siblings). Picked up fencing and guitar at an early age, then added archery later on.

Opening a new universe, and taking suggestions (if any of you are kind enough!) for:

[name_m]New[/name_m] Character 1: a girl, preferably a 2-3 syllable name. Something of a girly girl, though she can pack a bit of a punch, and is a pyrokinetic. Won’t waste time mourning for lost lives if she can be out saving others.

[name_m]New[/name_m] Character 2: another girl, yes. Bit of a theater kid who’s the life of a party and never seems to run out of energy; will randomly burst into song if she thinks it’s safe to do so. Rather like a fairy, she shapes reality by channeling emotions and thought through song. She’s one of those kids who constantly rants about their fandoms if you let them - about 85% of the pictures on her phone would be fanart or screenshots of fanfic.
