All your thoughts on Tess!

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] would be the full name — not short for anything.

I’d like to hear all your thoughts, opinions, observations, associations, etc. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if you hate it, please tell me why!

I think it’s literary, feminine, grounded, and substantial. In my opinion, [name_f]Tess[/name_f] works well as a stand alone name.

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] is a great name! It’s sweet and traditional without being too overtly classic. I really really like it! Also, with a one syllable first name that really gives you freedom to do whatever you want with the middle name! Extravagant middle names with three or four syllables are possible with the wonderful first name [name_f]Tess[/name_f]!

…You asked. A nameberry favorite I’m not into at all. Though I can’t really find an issue more than not being my style. I generally like more elaborate names, but [name_f]Tess[/name_f] just feels especially simple, even as someone who loves [name_u]Cass[/name_u]. That may be the appeal to some, while it leaves me wanting more, even [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]. The biggest factor may be that I find it hard to say with my specific speech issue. [name_f]Tess[/name_f] just isn’t a name I would enjoy having personally, but I wouldn’t fault it on anybody else.

Its one of these names that while i understand the apeal, I cant like it (alongside [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]). Its usable of course as a stand alone, a very spunky and sassy name imo. One of the reasons that I dont particularly like it, its cause it doesnt sound very cute in my accent.

Thank you!

@erin beth You’ve nailed all the reasons I’ve recently fallen for this one! Short, strong, impactful but traditional, with some great literary and real-life namesakes.

@ashleycookbert Yes, I love the potential for going a little bit wild/elaborate in the middle with simple, solid [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is gorgeous!

@justthinkin I did! Thanks for your honesty. I must admit, I too found [name_f]Tess[/name_f] too plain until quite recently (even as someone who loves short and nicknamey names like [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Meg[/name_f], [name_u]Joss[/name_u], [name_u]Cass[/name_u]) but I’ve really fallen for it over the past year or so.

@bellerose Thank you. Funny, I adore [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] too! But I’m glad you can see the appeal even if it doesn’t work for you.

@tp b [name_f]Bess[/name_f] is lovely! Is it a nickname in your daughter’s case?

I personally think it’s too short and sounds too much like a nickname. If I met someone named [name_f]Tess[/name_f], I would ask them if it’s short for something. I actually like short names, but these are one of those names that sound incomplete to me.

For me, [name_f]Tess[/name_f] has always been one of those names that doesn’t seem complex enough, or interesting enough to have much appeal. I also don’t find the sounds or look particularly attractive for some reason. Id prefer [name_u]Jess[/name_u] or [name_f]Ines[/name_f].

It’s ok but a little lacking to me next to your kids’ names. I prefer [name_f]Nell[/name_f] or [name_f]Liv[/name_f]

This name has really grown on me recently. A lot of names in its vein, including [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] and [name_f]Millie[/name_f], don’t appeal, but there’s something about [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. At once restrained and spunky, tailored and feminine, and modern-sounding yet with lots of history.

For me it works as a nickname, but it’s not complete enough-sounding for a full name on the birth certificate. (I’m one of those people who prefers a longer & more formal name w/nickname options.)

[name_f]Tess[/name_f], just [name_f]Tess[/name_f], is cutesey, but plain. I can imagine that people will forever be asking her “what is it short for?”

I love [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. I would personally never use it as a full name as I tend to like longer, more formal names. But I adore it as a nickname and I think it works just fine on its own. I wouldn’t be surprised to meet a [name_f]Tess[/name_f] who is just [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. I would actually enjoy it I think.
