[name_m]Just[/name_m] curious to other’s thoughts on Alliemae
Is it odd to have it as one word? Would it be more odd to have it [name_u]Allie[/name_u] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] when we’d consider that her first name, and thus have a middle name too?
It makes me smile, since that is my childhood nickname (though my middle name isn’t [name_f]Mae[/name_f]!). I think it is a bit cutesy to be a name as is. [name_m]Just[/name_m] speaking from personal experience, I’ve liked having a fuller name ([name_f]Alyssa[/name_f]) to go by in everyday life and [name_u]Allie[/name_u] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] as a nickname.
As far as form, I don’t care for it as one word. [name_u]Allie[/name_u] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] MiddleName would be fine or you could hyphenate it to [name_u]Allie[/name_u]-[name_f]Mae[/name_f] MiddleName. I prefer Alliemae over Alliemay, though.
This reminds me of a member in another thread saying how she and her duughter still laugh about how the daughter as a child had suggested the name Alimony, having no idea of the meaning of the word. She just liked the sound…
There are many names which could be nicknamed [name_u]Allie[/name_u] keeping [name_f]Mae[/name_f] for the mn…
[name_f]Alison[/name_f]
[name_f]Alethea[/name_f]
[name_f]Alyssa[/name_f]
[name_f]Alissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f]
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f]
[name_f]Alyse[/name_f]
[name_f]Alise[/name_f]
This is my name, except mn is [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. Personally I do not think it needs a longer full name. I’ve always had a soft spot for [name_f]Mae[/name_f], I think it goes quite nicely and makes a double-barrel I actually like.
I vote for the hyphen. Mostly because the two vowels in the middle make “smush” together oddly. Though I wouldn’t think to pronounce it any differently myself, others might when they see an I and an E next to each other in the center, as if it were “al-lee-eh-may”. The hyphen just visually looks better to me and I think would be less confusing.
Have you considered spelling [name_u]Allie[/name_u] differently? I spell it an alternative way and while it gets frequently misspelled, I think it would no matter what.
[name_u]Allie[/name_u] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is much better. You could also do [name_u]Allie[/name_u]-[name_f]Mae[/name_f]. The two as one word look odd.
I prefer Alliemay, having fewer e’s make it less confusing. That said if I were you I’d make [name_u]Allie[/name_u] her first name, [name_f]Mae[/name_f] her middle name (or one of two middle names) and call her both her first and middle.
