What do you think of these 2 names? DH is obsessed with [name]Addison[/name], but our 2 girls’ names are [name]Isabella[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] and I don’t think it’s a fit. I like [name]Allison[/name] as an alternative, but fear it’s too dated.
Then again, I don’t think many ppl are using [name]Allison[/name] any more, which is a plus in my book.
[name]Allison[/name]. I don’t think it’s dated (it’s actually enjoying a bit of a revival) and I think it’s far more appealing than [name]Addison[/name]. [name]Addison[/name] is quite trendy and destined to be extremely dated. It also means “son of [name]Adam[/name],” which I think is weird for a girl. [name]Allison[/name] is one of the few feminine names (maybe even only one) that ends in -son. It’s a form of [name]Alice[/name]. I think it’s much classier and more beautiful.
You may also like [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Adeline[/name], or [name]Ada[/name].
Definitely [name]Alison[/name]. I don’t think it is dated; it’s a medieval name and so is just as classic as your other children’s names. [name]Addison[/name] and [name]Madison[/name] and all those other weird “son” names for girls are destined to be the Jennifers and Tracys of the future.
[name]Allison[/name] is a “new classic” name whereas [name]Addison[/name]/[name]Madison[/name] and the like are very trendy. I think [name]Allison[/name] is pretty, friendly, approachable and trend-proof.
[name]Allison[/name] is gorgeous and is much better than [name]Addison[/name]. I think [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Allison[/name] make suych a great sib-set! I don’t think [name]Allison[/name] is at all dated but if you did feel so then she could go by [name]Allie[/name]. [name]Alice[/name] would also be perfect if you like other similar names. And maybe [name]Adelaide[/name] if your husbnad like [name]Ad[/name]- names. Good luck with everything!
[name]Allison[/name]. It’s a name that’s been around for a long, long time. (I’m thinking of [name]Chaucer[/name]'s [name]Miller[/name]'s Tale from the 14th century.) Your other girls have beauitiful, classic names. [name]Allison[/name] sounds great with them. [name]Addison[/name] sounds very trendy by comparison.
To me, [name]Allison[/name] is classic and [name]Addison[/name] is just trendy. Which means that [name]Allison[/name] will always sound classic, but [name]Addison[/name] is destined to be dated. Though there are exceptions, I think most of us can guess a woman’s age (within 7-8 years) if she’s named [name]Jennifer[/name], [name]Tiffany[/name], [name]Caitlin[/name], etc. I would have no idea when an [name]Allison[/name] was born, and I think that’s a very good thing.
I prefer [name]Allison[/name] with [name]Isabella[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name], but I like [name]Addison[/name] better as a name. I agree, I feel like [name]Allison[/name] is a bit dated, but it’s still a cute choice and isn’t near as popular as [name]Addison[/name].
[name]Addison[/name] is a boy’s name. It’s as simple as that. I think [name]Allison[/name] is gorgeous! My best friend was [name]Allison[/name] and forever went by the nickname [name]Allie[/name], which is adorable!
[name]Both[/name] are nice but I actually prefer [name]Addison[/name] (a nameberry sin, I know). That being said, I don’t find [name]Allison[/name] to be dated and really, I don’t think you can go wrong with either name. For me it would come down to which nickname I preferred, [name]Ally[/name] or [name]Addy[/name].
I prefer [name]Allison[/name], it’s my first name though so I am a little biased :] I also may be speaking from my bias here but I don’t think it’s dated. I’m in my early twenties and all the other [name]Allison[/name]'s I know have greatly varied ages. I was also never called [name]Allie[/name] all that often. My family always called me [name]Allison[/name], occasionally [name]Alice[/name], and my friends call me [name]Al[/name] more often than not.
Thanks so much all! It’s not the only name on our list, but I wanted some input on those 2. We have quite a few girl names…it’s the boy names that are impossible!
As an [name]Alison[/name], I have to say I prefer it to [name]Addison[/name]. [name]Addison[/name] is very popular right now and is too similar to [name]Madison[/name] which is ridiculously popular. [name]Alison[/name] is more of a classic name and goes well with your other daughters’ names.
I think [name]Allison[/name] is still current- [name]Allie[/name] is a very popular nickname, and I actually just met a little girl named [name]Allie[/name]- and much more classic and pretty and feminine than [name]Addison[/name], especially with [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name].
I love [name]Allison[/name]. My stepdaughter is [name]Allicen[/name], nn [name]Allie[/name], also love. And [name]Alice[/name] is a very pretty alternative.
Definitely ditch [name]Addison[/name]; it’s super trendy, and will sound super-dated.
[name]Allison[/name] definitely has a 70’s 80’s sound to me; I grew up with a fair number of Allisons. As tristan points out, [name]Allison[/name] is an older English name, so it has a more classic sound, like [name]Isabella[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name]. I think [name]Allison[/name] will sound fresher in the coming years; [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name] are much more “in” now than [name]Allison[/name], so your third daughter just might end up with the freshest sounding name of the three by the time she hits adulthood.
This comment as well as some others are contradicting. Your saying ditch the name which is current because it will become dated, for the name which is already dated? (look at your comment you said that [name]Allison[/name] is dated sounding in so many words). I dont get the rational, its basically saying avoid this because it will become one thing (dated), and your saying pick this one because its already that one thing (dated). And to everyone, Im not so sure that [name]Addison[/name] is going to sound super dated (not that any of us can predict this sort of thing), think about it, it has alot of sounds in common with alot of names, [name]Adeline[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Madeline[/name], [name]Madison[/name], [name]Allison[/name] etc., therefore if it sounds dated, then so will all those other names.
To the poster, I think both names are fine, [name]Allison[/name] is still in use, and [name]Addison[/name] is obviously a well liked name by many parents. They are so close really.
