Alliterative name too much? Maxton/Max Malone?

[name_m]Just[/name_m] like almost every other female out there, I’ve been thinking baby names since I was a little girl. I’ve always been drawn to M names, but there’s now a dilemma…my married name begins with M and I’ve NEVER been a fan of alliterative names. It’s been gnawing at me, so I figured that I’d post on a naming forum.

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband likes [name_u]Mischa[/name_u]. Our last name is [name_m]Malone[/name_m]. [name_u]Mischa[/name_u] [name_m]Malone[/name_m] doesn’t sound bad at all, but I almost can’t get past the alliteration, but that’s what started to open me up to the possibility. I love [name_f]Molly[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_m]Malone[/name_m] is too much. And he doesn’t like it. But my main dilemma is [name_m]Maxton[/name_m]. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_m]Maxton[/name_m], and really like [name_u]Max[/name_u]. But I wonder if it’s over the top. [name_m]Maxton[/name_m] [name_m]Malone[/name_m] doesn’t sound too bad to me, but I’m almost afraid that [name_u]Max[/name_u] [name_m]Malone[/name_m] sounds like a cartoon character and wouldn’t be taken seriously. As a female with a boys’ name, a name taken seriously is VERY important to me since I don’t take mine seriously, especially as an adult. I don’t want a boy to grow up and he no longer fit his name.

So long story short, what do you guys think of:

[name_u]Mischa[/name_u] [name_m]Malone[/name_m]

[name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_m]Malone[/name_m]

and most importantly [name_m]Maxton[/name_m]/[name_u]Max[/name_u] [name_m]Malone[/name_m]?

too much, cartoon character, good names?

[name_f]My[/name_f] brother’s name is alliterative and very, very close to [name_u]Max[/name_u] [name_m]Malone[/name_m]. Certainly this is a bias for me, but I think [name_u]Max[/name_u] [name_m]Malone[/name_m] works well.

I know this wasn’t part of your original question but I also happen to like some other forms of [name_u]Max[/name_u] better than [name_m]Maxton[/name_m]; [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m], [name_m]Maximiliano[/name_m], etc. [name_m]Maxton[/name_m] sounds made-up to me.

Good luck with your choice!

I understand what you mean about [name_m]Maxton[/name_m] sounding made up. I have had issues with that because having an untypical first name has led me to a disposition of using “normal” names. [name_m]Maxton[/name_m] is about as far out as I’ll ever get. I feel as if it’s unique enough, while still fairly safe. I could meet an adult [name_m]Maxton[/name_m] today and not think twice about his parents’ decision. I think it could still be professional. I like [name_m]Maximillian[/name_m] and [name_m]Maximus[/name_m], but I feel as though those are too many "M"s. [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] [name_m]Malone[/name_m]…see? And [name_u]Max[/name_u] would always be a good alternative if he felt the way you do. Thank you for your opinion! I greatly appreciate it!

[name_u]Mischa[/name_u] is fine but I don’t think ‘maxton’ flows well at all. Strangely, I have no problem with [name_u]Max[/name_u] [name_m]Malone[/name_m], so maybe it’s the name itself that I don’t like. I much prefer [name_m]Macsen[/name_m] and [name_m]Maksim[/name_m] to get [name_u]Max[/name_u]/Macs/[name_m]Maks[/name_m].

[name_m]Maxton[/name_m] [name_m]Malone[/name_m] otally sounds like a comic book character - but like he would be a detective hero or something, and I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] THAT.

[name_m]Maxton[/name_m] to me seems trendy, it fits in with all the -ton endings that are so popular right now (payton’s crowd). I think I prefer [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], if you like [name_u]Max[/name_u] names - its a more established first name, and then if the alliteration does become a nuisance he can always go by Welles or something.

I’m not a big fan of [name_m]Maxton[/name_m], plus I find it even more similar to the last name. They share the Ma- beginning and the -on ending. However, I think [name_u]Max[/name_u] [name_m]Malone[/name_m] is very cute. [name_f]My[/name_f] best friend has a [name_u]Max[/name_u] {2-syllable M name}, so I may be a bit biased, but I think it’s super cute.

I think with alliterative names, some work and some don’t. For me, [name_u]Mischa[/name_u] [name_m]Malone[/name_m] is preferable to [name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_m]Malone[/name_m]. I prefer [name_u]Max[/name_u] but [name_m]Maxton[/name_m] is ok too. I have an alliterative name and always felt sort of special because of it
