I love the name [name_u]Alma[/name_u]. It’s sweet and friendly, but also can be professional and dignified.

I think it’s cottagecore-cute, granny-chic. I’m seeing rose gardens, old well-loved paperbacks, patchwork blankets, farmer’s markets, shopping for vintage clothes, teapots, homemade bread :womans_hat::rabbit2::potted_plant::bread::mantelpiece_clock::basket::framed_picture::teapot::blossom:

I get sort of cosy and quaint vibes; imagery of knitted scarves, untidy book shelves, steaming cups of tea

It’s the word for soul in portuguese, so it gives me a kinda religious/philosophical and sweet vibes. I can imagine a little girl with deep brown eyes, full of curiosity and really kind. I love it.

No idea why, but the first word that comes to mind is woolly. I think of chunky knitwear, specifically cardigans. If I try to expand on that, maybe nerdy-cool? Bold glasses, tea dresses, Mary-janes.

I also get the religious, dignified and spiritual vibes - but in a very warm and easy way.

[name_u]Alma[/name_u] means soul in Spanish and that is the first thing I thought. Modern yet timeless, colourful and peaceful and strong yet calm.

[name_u]Alma[/name_u] is sweet, cozy, and classic with southern belle charm. To me she’s a small town sweetheart in a sundress and old boots, kicking red dirt, climbing up on a truck, sweet tea sippin on front porch, running on the field and letting her hair down.

You are making me like [name_u]Alma[/name_u]! Really starting to see it! It sounds kinda cute, thinking warm fireplace, wearing a fuzzy knitted jumper.
Currently it’s a seriously dated name in my country, not liked at all. This is a name people joke about a la ‘when I’m getting kids, Im gonna name them [name_u]Alma[/name_u] and Maiu, hohoho’ ‘And I’m gonna name mine Vomitilda and Snotbert, pfahah’… :unamused: (I actually heard that conversation :smiling_face_with_tear::smiling_face_with_tear:). But yes, I like it now! :sunny:

Thanks for the feedback! What’s your preferred pronunciation, I like AL-ma but ALL-ma seems more popular.

It makes me think of a rugged, tired pioneer woman in the mid 1800s, who has moved with her husband and children in their covered wagon to the prairie and is a bit bitter and stern. She is strongly built and helps her husband with a lot of the farm work while also having to completely take care of the children and domestic work. She has permanently roughened skin and is no longer very pretty from working outside so much and resents this and wishes she still lived on the small, quiet farm in the [name_u]East[/name_u] she came from.

There’s been a pretty obvious pattern here! I feel like I can visualize something completely different. Despite the history, I think it feels modern and gender neutral. I picture a confident, extroverted little girl with short hair and sass.

I know a toddler named [name_u]Alma[/name_u], and she’s precious. [name_u]Bright[/name_u] red hair. [name_u]Alma[/name_u] in general gives me cozy grandma vibes.

[name_f]My[/name_f] son goes to nursery with a little girl called [name_u]Alma[/name_u]. She is the sweetest little girl with Down’s syndrome. She is a darling, so my first thought is her.
